What a heart-rendering story is your one about booking fights. I know exactly what you mean since I was a travel agent back swhen I was in my fifties.... I didn't like it but got hired as an outside sales rep, and that way I did not have to mingle with the office help or customers.
I also have grandchildren in Portland, and I used to take Southwest and Alaska from L.A.
Re your son.. i also undertand the heartache you are going through... My youngest son, now 62, was really hooked and my life was miserable
.
But I am happy to say that today he is 62 and has been free of both alcohol and drugs for many years.
My constant Prayers to our Heavely Father worked,, and happy to say he is living here with me now as kind of caregiver as such... doing the shopping and other things that were so easy when I was still able to drive.
In fact, today on my 91st birthday, he walked into my bedroom with a lovely card and bouguet of long stemmed Roses and said,,,, Happy Birtgday, Mom, I love you. Stay close to your phone because your three grandkids will be calling you from Portland to wish you a happy birthday."
Those are words I never thought I would hear in over twenty years, and that is when he was living in Portland
My prayers will be with ypu. and hope you find your son is well on his way to recovery.
God Bless......Nan:)).

Good luck to the both of you. Perhaps you will be able to encourage him to check in to rehab. I know it is heartbreaking to see a loved one throw their life away. It affects the entire family. God Bless you both Patty. Have a safe trip. Nancy

Thanks for sharing, Patty. Please post again with a poem just before you leave in May so that we can cover your trip in prayer. I'm sure you are both excited and a bit worried, too. Thanks for sharing the travel booking process, too. Hope all goes even better than expected.

I am so glad you are doing this, Patty. Actions speak louder than words and you are showing him you care enough about him to spend time with him. May is a good time to visit Minnesota. You shouldn't have snow and the mosquitoes (aka Minnesota State Bird) won't be out in full force yet! I hope you have a wonderful time with him and that this will be a step in the right direction.

I wanted to share this information with you, my Fan Story family. I have been so encouraged by all of you that have read my stories. The comments, suggestions, and kind words help to sustain me as I face the biggest challenge in my life. I pray this trip will bring my son one step closer to recovery.
I am so glad you did Patty, what a wonderful way to express your love for your son, by reaching out, sometimes your loved ones need that alone to give them strength love Meia xx

Thanks for reading, Meia. I am so excited to go and see him, but a bit fearful that he may be more changed than I want to face. I totally agree with you - I need to reach out and let him know I'm always here for him.

This story, Booking Flights, really is one of those stand alone stories that take on a life of their own as you get into the details. The overall tale of saving a life is filled, as is all our lives, with minutia.

Good luck on the trip and I'm sorry it was such an adventure booking it. Air travel has changed so much over the year, as has staying in hotels and motels. The customer used to be so well served in the air, and on the ground. Most motels had restaurants that served three meals and eliminated the need to search off premises.
Thank you for keeping us posted.

Patty that is so wonderful your taking a trip to see the kids; I did not read the previous writings of your sons addiction; I am so sorry about that. I will have to go read it. Addiction is a difficult thing to deal with within your family; I do hope, seeing him Mom may help his decision to want to go for help into a rehab. I wish you and your family all the best. ~Kerry~

HI Mustangpatty, You and I have posted before and we have reviewed each other's trials by addiction. I was a victim of spousal abuse. I turned to Serepax. Gregory has turned to a more modern version. It took me years of misery to finally be admitted to hospital and after years of trying to get clean and gain a life. One thing I wish to tell you, only Gregory can do this. Only he can decide when he's had enough of the drugs and he can't afford the next one to get him a fix. I pray as a recovered addicted that he does see a way to better health. Sincerely Anne.

So glad that you were able to find some flights, it's crazy these days with all the options. Can't wait for the stories about your grandchildren and your daughter too. I wish all the best for your son and I hope you and your husband have a safe flight.
