Hi Patty. You took the first step in seeing your son for the first time in a year. I wish you all the luck in the world steering him in the direction you would like him to go for his well being and for yours. Don't berate yourself for anything you say or don't say to convince him to get help. The bottom line is that an addict won't seek help until he himself has reached bottom and is ready to change his life. Blessings to all of you. Marilyn

Thank you, Marilyn. I'm hoping to gently steer him in the rehab direction, but I have zero illusions about him doing it 'because Mom says so.' At thirty years old, I don't think I possess that power anymore. I appreciate your well wishes, and your comments.

Thanks for sharing Patty, and the candid revelation about your son's addiction. I know the pain of a mother when her son turns out different. My son is schizophrenic. The illness manifested when he was 20. It's been 23 years now.

Thank you for stopping by to read and review. It was hard to reveal to my Fan Story family the truth about my son. But, I do feel safe and welcomed here, and it has turned out to be a good thing. I will pray for you and your son - I can only imagine what you have gone through,

Although I haven't read your WIP, I feel an affinity with your situation. My son is not really into drugs now, but according to doctors, he took some drug when he was 18 and this set off his current psychotic condition that comes and goes: months of just a nice ordinary life and then suddenly he goes into manic depression that makes life hard for us all.
I can only join hands with the other members of Fan Story family to wish you all the best and keep you in my prayers.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read and review. I'm so sorry to hear about your son. I have been told that drug use can exacerbate existing mental illness, too. I believe my son suffers from Bi Polar disease, and fear that the drug use is a form of self-medication. I will keep you and your family in my prayers as well,

Great job of sharing your life with us. I used Southwest Airlines on my recent trip to Baltimore, too. I loved the cheaper tickets, the fact they allow us to take two bags, and the people were so nice. Great find!!

Whatever happened to the days when you could call a travel agent and have it all done for you? (I loved those days. I'm glad I never became one, I'd be so out of a job.)

I hope your son will be able to overcome his addiction, and maybe your visit will help him along the way. I haven't tried to fly anywhere for several years, not since all the airline craziness began. I don't know if I could put up with it. I hope the flight is a good one for you. You did a very thorough job of trying to find accommodations. I've seen TV ads for services that supposedly help you get the best deals on hotels, etc., but wouldn't it be nice to have a travel agent handle everything? Best wishes. judi

I identify with the excitement of going to see your daughter and the grandkids. I travel between Spain and Ireland and I go to France to see my three grandchildren who live there. Booking flights is a nightmare, I am delighted to hear you got sorted with a good company. I found it difficult when I tried to book a hotel with no direct conversation with a human. This is the modern age and we need to learn more about it to survive. I hope you have a wonderful time with family, I thoroughly enjoyed your story so I will give it a six rating,
