So that's your new home! It looks lovely. Unless you're loaded, houses in this country tend to have tiny, poky kitchens and either a poky diner, or a cramped lounge-diner. I prefer the kitchen and dining area to be open, like this.
D'ya fancy a home-swap? I have a lovely view of a razor wired fence from my living room. Alternatively, I hope you settle in comfortable and are happy there.
Good luck in the contest ~ Jane

Oh how life can turn in a flash. Yes that was the one that had accepted the offer but the inspection report had a few repairs to be made and my sister didn't want to do them so we let it go. I am doing the hunting again. I may be going further out into the valley away from everyone I know. Might be a good thing. Just spent the day in the same town as this last one but doesn't look to good right now, but 20 min. away is another town that I'd be okay living in. My boyfriend when I was 16 yrs old lives in this area. wouldn't that be fun to run into him?

Dammit! But it's too easy to get stuck in a town, and it sounds like you're up for a bit of adventure.
Writing this has made me see that I'm in a rut. Maybe I should try and figure out what to do about it.
As for your teenage dream - whatever you do, don't fall into his arms or let him carry you off to his castle in the sand... lol... unless he's Russell Crow, in which case his castles wll be built on solid foundations.
Seriously, good luck (again) with the homesearch.

funny you said that cause there is this lake resort nearby that we hung out at, in the sand. lol

'Ells bells (as they say in London) Lulube - you're older than your writing would suggest. I'm 62 and I thought you were younger than me...
reply by the author on 09-Apr-2017
I'm also 62 yrs old. how 'bout that? what do you mean
older than my writing would suggest? by the frankness in style of wording?

I don't know what I meant. Maybe I wrote it because I live in a block full of stupid people around our age who never say anything interesting.
I have friends who I respect, but most of them are younger than me and none of them live in this building. It's association housing - I was homeless and this was the first place I was offered. It's for the over 57s, and you have to be a bit dim or chaotic/unlucky to land here. I'm one of the few who fit into the second category.

Well they say, (who are they anyways?), that, Home is where the heart is. and at least you are out of the rain and can think of your next move. You still have the freedom to make your own decisions in a day, so How is your daughter making out? Is she still holding onto change or has she been pulled back into the hive of disillusion?
The weather changes will help her if she lets it.

Laura's doing really well. On Monday she moved in with my friend about 100 miles away. I stayed up there a couple of days, and came home last night, feeling confident. She's in a safe environment, being treated as a member of the family. They've already supported a two people through recovery, and they'll do the same for her.
    I'm so proud of her...

Hi Lori,
yes, one hundred words... and I'm sure your eyes must be seeing double after all the hunting.

I sure hope you find something suitable... I've been thinking about you and your situation and wondering how everything is panning out.

Real photo? What a nice little space... so this is your place you're moving from? What a shame, it looks so... well, comfortable.

Please keep me in the loop and let me know how you're doing my friend.

Me, I've been a tad sketchy... my body's not doing all that well and now it seems to affecting my eye sight some... maybe a pinching of a nerve somewhere in my thoracic spine?

So, life goes on for the both of us in different, but same directions... let our knowing be our strength.

All the very best wishes in this contest... and hell, I do hope you find the perfect 'new' home... you so deserve to be at peace and comfortable.

With our thoughts we create,
the perfect connection.
James vx's.

have you had your eyes checked for glaucoma (know I spelt that wrong) or maybe you have built up pressure behind the eye. I've had that twice but it went away. If you've had a bad neck in the past, all things can come out of that, once again, I have had and still have a bad neck, I have two discs that herniate and my spine is now curving to the left that lowers the right shoulder and waist but the spine takes another curve to the right at the waist to the tailbone, like a huge "S" in the meantime bone spurs have formed on the outside of the discs and narrowing of the inside of the discs, with arthroporosis and othroporosis settling in. what a mess eh? still I make myself do what I did in my 30 's and lay down a lot with ice packs. lol learn to live with it and learn how to do things differently. Then there are the two hands that are gimped from falling down a wall of boulders head first and I had to put my hands out infront so not to squash my face into the rocks, well I traumatized my hands. all the little bones in the back of the hands are pushed together, like a Flintstone rock pile. arthritis in my left thumb and wrist bone sticks up but I broke the right wrist a year later on the right hand and it's all gimped up with a plate and screws in it. So my friend, although we think we are still young, trust me, the body does not go along with that thought.
You may have the start of cataracts, a good eye specialist will tell you and that is correctable, you may end up with better sight. lol
take care my friend and watch out where you are going!!!!

by the way that was to be the home I'd move into but my sister didn't like it so I'm hunting again

Well, ain't we a great pair?
Yeah I know the eye thing is related to by spine... somewhere... I've had my eyes look at, ECG's etc... and yeah, I have had major damage to my neck as well... broke my neck and then kept damaging it playing football... major arthritic changes and herniated discs... so I guess it's got a lot to with it... but when you've got multiple areas in one's body of damage, change and pain, it's hard to keep track of what manifests... just like a hamster on the wheel of life... and yes, I know of the hand, fingers and thumb pain as well... broke, dislocated damaged goods... some days are diamonds... some are just plain rocks... like you I'll just keep rolling with the punches and hope I've still got enough movement to duck a few... smile))))))))))))))))))))))))!
And hey(((((((((((((((((... hope you find a new and comfortable-low maintenance home... with maybe a bit of good looking eye candy to pass the hours away... take care and happy house hunting! vx's.

You're kidding, found my physical lost twin, who's down under me. lol
Still able to duck, I had a section of my life having to duck, I found that a heavy steel, foot long, crescent wrench kept on top of the fridge, helped me out immensely. I mean, what's a 5 foot girl gonna do to a 6 foot guy who's eyes are red an bulging out and he's coming towards ya. Get the wrench girl. Once I hit him on the top of the forearm. stopped him in his tracks, never did that again.
thank the stars I'm just too old for that shit now. lol

lulube,, may your freezer be full of ice packs
reply by Jumbo J on 26-Mar-2017
I love the sayin'... You've gotta sleep sometimes... yes, especially when you've got a dirty big wrench handy to solidify the statement...smile))))))))))))))! And yes...you know my freezer's full of ice packs...hell, I've lived most of my life in ice... and yes, we're both too old for that shit now... but I'll always keep at least one left in me for emergencies... I gotta a lot of 'one's' left... I'll just make such it's the right time and circumstance to use them... vx's.

Hi Lulube, this is very good. I think when writing about something relevant, about something you actually know about, it turns out better than off the top of your head. Great picture. Actually the one YOU have bought. Does that lovely chandalier come with the house? LOL. Good Luck - Dorothy xx

House-hunting can be a gruelling business filled with many disappointments along the way. Good to hear that this one had a happy ending eventually. I like happy endings! LOL

Hi there,

Ah, yes... house hunting can be like looking for that proverbial needle in a haystack and it's not just finding the property either. there's all the stuff that comes next.

nice little piece.

Well, congratulations, on your dream home. Based upon the the photograph of the kitchen, it is beautiful. This story is a/an indication that determination, prayer and hard work paid off.

I enjoyed reading this flash fiction. I did not count the words, but presumably the story meets the contest criteria. Good luck in the contest.

Oh the horror of house hunting. I've been through it five times in my life. I didn't mine the hunting so much as going through the mortgage procedure and the moving.
I enjoyed this drabble.
Great writing!
