Sweet doggies! They have a sweet life, don't they? I liked the 'Mistress doled out treats like a Priest giving communion' line.
One suggestion:
Delete 'and' in this sentence 'When the cuckoo announced the eleventh hour of the day, and the Mistress settled on the couch' OR delete 'when'.

A very sweet story, perhaps this could be part of a children's book, I like the interaction between the two dogs. You could definately expand some of the 'scenes' for example what does bernie do at the opening of the dishwasher, I bet, if he is like some dogs he thinks of it as a possible excuse to explore for more 'treats.' Anyway the possiblitlies are endless and with a good illustrator or pix of your dog this would make a fun book!

Thank you for stopping by to read and review. Personifying my dogs is a reward to myself. I make up voices for them, and tell my hubby what I think they would say in many situations. I will incorporate your suggestions into the next story I write about them.

As we age it seems our pets take the place of the children who left the nest. I know they did for me. Now my pets have gone before me and I am without one. I won't get another because I am not able to take care of a pet. We have Mark's dog Freddie and Rhonda's dog Sadie but I don't even have a cat anymore.

Hi Nancy; yes, my fur babies have definitely replaced my grown children. I'm sorry you can't have a pet at this time. I know they can be a great comfort. At least you have dogs that can visit.
