Very well written story from a canine view
got my attention because it was about dogs, but held my attention because it was about good writing.
I do look forward to read about what Howie has to say.
A very enjoyable read

MustangPatty, gosh, what a sweet picture of your dogs Bernie and Howie. They look like they both have a good nature about them, not to mention that they both obviously love the Mistress of the house :-). I enjoyed reading this story on these two little companions. It showed how patient and affectionate they are, especially Bernie.
Thank you for sharing this enjoyable read. ~DD

Besides, there were just too many rules about barking. They were asked to 'speak' for a treat, but they were hushed when they barked at a knock on the door.... I gotta side with Howie here, Patty. I mean, what's a doggie 'sposed to think? We give 'em treats when asked to bark, and we holler at them to hush when someone comes knocking at the door.
If I were a dog (and in some circles I am actually considered as one), and I got a treat every time my human asked me to open my yapper, I would be barking my tail off!

Cute little story ya got here.
It was nice to get to meet your furry canine companions.

Good, wholesome, loving fun with your "boys". What a pleasure to read and be a part of. Yes, do, write some more. Write both fact and fiction--I don't think there's a rule against that!

"Good morning(+,) Bernie. Did you sleep good?"

Two years younger than Howie, he hadn't gotten the strong discipline given to Howie when he was the only pup. Besides, there were just too many rules about barking

I have two male chihuahua mixes. They are also about 2 years apart. And Brutus, the older is spoiled, yet very smart. The younger we got from a shelter when he was about 2 years old. We though he might only be a year, he still behaved like a puppy. Because he was a fostered dog, he had to adjust to our routine, which meant you don't have to gobble your food. Brutus is a picky eater and Rocky just wants to eat before anyone else. Soon he learned Brutus was not going to steal his food. They are inseparable.

I wouldn't know what I would do without them either. My husband and I do not have kids except these two.

Thanks for sharing
hugs HEidi

Thank you for stopping by to read and review. I appreciate your kind review and you sharing about your dogs. Our grown children have been out of the house for 12 years now, so the dogs are my babies.

Yes, "What a lucky little dog he was."

Given that I am reviewing your story as my Chihuahua sleeps nearby I found your story inspiring. I love the idea of telling a story from Bernie's point of view. I can see Bern and imagine my Chihuahua as Bern. You have a good sense and imagination at portraying his character and perspective of things.

Thank you for sharing and entertaining with your charming dog story.

Our furry little friends sure do bring much joy to our lives. They do demand our time too, but they are worth it. I enjoyed reading about your boys.

Patty that was the cutest, most adorable story of your little furry friends. you had me smiling and giggling. The way you put it "doled out the treats like a priest" I can picture it. There really cute. Want to hear something funny? I have the exact pair of pj pants, same color too. lol Isn't that just to much. :) It's scary how much we have in common. Well it was a terrific write, worded just perfectly.

Hi Kerry; I'm so glad my story could make you giggle. Back when I was new to the site in 2011, I used to write about my Jack Russel Terrier all the time. The readers couldn't get enough of those stories. I decided I didn't want to go back to my animal personification, but the boys won me over! It is indeed scary how much we have in common - more for you than me! Thanks for stopping by to read and review,

I know the feeling of appreciating our furry companions. Their antics in the morning are so entertaining - they are such great company. I assume Bernie is the one up front in the photo? My babies love treats too, but we have to keep them to a minimum b/c they all love to eat a little bit too much, lol.

Thank you for your generous review and kind comments about our dogs. Yes, Bernie is more to the front of the picture, and Howie's face can just be seen. Next week I have to write a story from Howie's point of view because he is jealous!

You grasp the intangibles, for instance animals can speak in sign language, way they look at you, each look means something different but human, mostly, do not pick up on these things, their hectic lives prevent them to see how smart animals truly are. Who are the animals? Keebles & bits of humor here and the cute pictures most welcomed. You done a great jog mastering this prose. Was entertaining to read and BOO likes the humor and bits. Wish BOO had six bones to give, this is worthy of a nugget. BOO-rific!`
