What a cute story. Katie Jo hasn't written a story for a while. I better encourage her to get busy. She doesn't have so much to write about in the winter, I guess. Well written, my friend~Debbie

Thank you for stopping by to read and review. I love writing from my pets point of view. I've been writing and personifying my animals' thought for about 20 years. Bernie and Howie are the current stars. I appreciate your kind words. I would love to hear from Katie Jo.

Hello Patty,

One of your doggies looks like my Maltese. I know exactly what you mean. After the kids are grown up, it's like having a wonderful second chance with babies, isn't it?

Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Sonali xx

Thanks for stopping by to read and review. Believe it or not, both dogs are maltese mixes. They are half brothers - they share the same maltese sire, but Howie's mother was a pekingnese, and Bernie's mother was a yorkie. Yes, it is like a second chance to bring up children. Though my grown children claim I spoil the dogs way more than I ever did with them,

Enjoyed reading your story about your very adorable doggies, and think I would have put non-fiction as the listing, and wasn't sure until I read your author notes, and that seems to even make this a even better read because this is all true... and know they think the world of their owner. also know there are more Bernie & Howie Adventures in the works...llike walks around town possibly, etc.... so don't keep us in suspense....And for Howie to be known as a Mistress, I guess he takes that in stride.

Hi
Good short story
Dogs need and want the leadership
of humans. The best thing in the world that you could do for them is get them in to a clicker ONLY obedience class take one dog at a time. don't give them any food until you get to training so they'll want to learn and earn the treat
1/4 of a fingernail size. Take the training SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSlowwwwwwwwwww make each small step rock solid then go on. I guarantee that they will be happier and you will too. If you do it you'll think it is the best money you ever spent. But ONLY clicker style training. I trained dogs professionally for 15 yrs.
Best regards,
K River

Thank you for stopping by to read and review. I appreciate your suggestion to get them some training. I used clicker training for my Jack Russell terrier and he was very well trained. My current situation is a bit different, so I didn't put in the time to train these guys.

Oh Patty your babies are gorgeous. I had to smile as I read this one. It sounds just like my life with Podge and Rodge.

Love the way they 'speak' to get a treat. Mine would consider that a waste of time, grab the treat and dart under the table. No manners at all.

hugs

Freda

Thanks for stopping by to read and review. I bet my dogs would think the antics of Podge and Rodge are funny. Trust me, there are days that Bernie just grabs the treat out of my hand!

This story, Bernie and Howie, is a delightful narrative that gives great personality to both the energetic Bernie and the curmudgeon Howie.

Oh, this is so sweet.

I have three. If I so much as bump into a box of treats, all three will be awakened from a dead sleep and standing at attention before the rumble of milkbones has even stopped inside the box.

The sweet snuggly naps? That I can relate to. Plus, my dogs are way better than people. They are the stars of my life. Glad to meet Bernie and Howie.

I love those two little faces looking back at me. You have two very sweet dogs, Patty. A delightful read in the day of a dog, or two. Nice notes in your Authors notes as well. I have four under foot presently, and three cats. I can't imagine my life without them.

Howie wasn't a morning dog. -> Howie isn't a morning dog (since you are writing in present tense...)

the Mistress doled out the tidbits like a Priest giving communion. -> great description!

Howie was much better at obeying commands than Bernie was. -> Howie's much better at obeying command than Bernie. (tense)
