I like this one. It feels in the style of the old masters where they are making an obsevation about their day ad how it makes them feel. I enjoyed this

Yes, this one is very easy to visualize. But don't forget, plenty of food while you are stranded.
It is a very romantic setting and I can picture a lovely cabin on the side of a mountain snowed in. Nice haiku

A Haiku that paints an image of winter, a mountain cabin and ends with a desire to be there. Lovely.

We all have our wish list and may yours come true.

Hi Karyn
Hey, as long as there's a good wood stove and plenty of firewood, it would be great to spend the night, with a raging blizzard outside. It doesn't take long to heat up a small log cabin. Pretty soon, you'd have to open the door to let some heat out! I know, because I've done exactly that out at our old hunting camp near Capple Lake. My grandfather and his three sons (my uncles... Bob, Maurice, and Ralph) built it when I was only 1 or 2 years old, 1951-52. Of course, they have all passed away now, but the camp is still there. My cousin uses it now. I've only been out there once since I was 33 years old, and I'm 66 now. It was always a great log cabin. One November hunting trip, we had a deep snowfall out there. The snow was up to our waist in some places. We hunted across a hardwood ridge, and came upon a fir tree whose branches were weighed down with snow (like so many others). It made a nice shelter for a buck who'd spent the storm there. He had run off, perhaps he heard us coming along. I don't know. But I never forgot that scene.
I don't hunt anymore, haven't since I was 33. But I do miss being in the woods in the fall. I love walking along a woods road with a light rain falling. My bucket list has a special item too... a trip to some remote fishing lodge in Quebec or Newfoundland, where all you do is fish, eat, and relax with a good book for a whole week!
Good luck with your own bucket list! Here's a few other things I'd like to do:
2. see the Rocky Mountains, possibly by train
3. experience a south seas island
4. take in a Nascar race
5. see the Calgary Stampede
6. a Toronto Maple Leaf hockey game, maybe against the Boston Bruins
7. the Grand Canyon
8. the Viking settlement in western Newfoundland
9. take a cruise
10. visit the site of the Doc Martin series in western England. The fictional name is Portwenn, but the real name is Port Isaac.

Maybe someday! It doesn't hurt to dream.

cheers
Kimbob

Wow! I love your review and comments, Kimbob! Thanks for sharing your memories of the cabin...ever think of going back? I loved your list, and several of yours are kind as well. I'd love to take a train through the Canadian Rockies, and a South Seas island. You really have to take a cruise! It's a wonderful vacation where you don't have to worry about anything, can visit all kinds of countries, do all sorts of activities, or do nothing at all except relax. Hope you get some checked off your list, Kimbob!
    Smiles,
    Karyn :-)

I never expected the ending on this. Yet, thinking back to my youth, we lived in an isolated farmhouse in upstate NY.
Boy, did we have blizzards and get snowed it. There was a certain comfort in being cozy with the family and warming ourselves by the fire.

Note your subjunctive 'wish' in the last line and use of the correct verb. :-)

Thanks for your wonderful review, generous rating, and comments for my winter haiku, Shari. There's just something about being stranded in a mountain cabin that gets to me!

Yeah, that's why I had a question mark on yours. I said it out loud over and over and the plural just sounded silly to me, but thought it was right. LOL

    Thanks!

    Karyn :-)

Congratulations! I can see why this one won. I loved the message. It made me smile to read. Not everyone would have that wish - but I would. I especially liked your bucket list fantasy. Definitely a winner.

Blessings
Janet

My favorite thing of all time is a New York City weekend when there's a blizzard. Everything gets really quiet, and everyone goes to the movies and the park. Thanks for reminding me about blizzards.

Not using a picture... isn't that what haikus are all about for the purists? I rarely use photos on anything. Maybe I'm just lazy! lol

Anyway, I like this one. I love the isolation, and the thought of being cut off from everything for a while. It's why I live in the country.

Nice one
G

Yes, G, the words of a haiku should be chosen so the reader can picture the scene without a photo. But this is FS and so many readers complain there's no picture, and I've even been deducted a star for not having one.

I'm glad you like my winter haiku, G. Thanks for your review and kind response.
