Whenever I hear from you be it via review or original post, I consider it a treat. Sorry to hear that you are or have been under the weather. Please take care of your heath as you are a far too treasured resource to lose. God bless.

I enjoyed your story. I am anxious to find out what happened with the
friendship with you and Billy. Billy should understand, you didn't sell out your friendship; it was what was best for you. My opinion if Billy's a true friend he'd understand. You portrayed your characters wonderfully in this chapter.

Thank you Kerry. At first he was disappointed as we were as close at the time as twin brothers. We really did almost everything together. He eventually did come to a measure of acceptance, then someone with sneaky intentions came up with a deception that killed our friendship. Pleases stay tuned.

First and foremost good on you for writing as I for one am interested to read more about your time in the Air Force as I know so little about it. I have always been more an Army type myself although my mother always wanted me to join the RAF when I was a lad, never did thanks for sharing looking forward to reading more.

Thank you. I have never regretted my decision even though it ultimately contributed to the ruining and ending of what I thought was a very strong friendship

Hi,
You have a good start for your story.
Thank you for your service.
You were being protected and
didn't know it because Nam was about to explode.
I went in to the USMC in 1971
I too was protected without my knowledge
I tried to volunteer to go to Nam but wasn't allowed to go. I was a crazy kid I know to do that but I did. Anyways it is a good write. I will look forward to reading the rest of you story.
Best regards,
K River

Thank you K. While I was in Okinawa I volunteered for a mission that wound up ending in Vietnam. I missed going because it was a situation of whomever was on duty at the time was sent. It happened two hours after my shift ended. From what I later klearned, there is a good chance that I might have been killed if I had gone.

Easy said, fortunately, reluctantly how an induction event came in at US Air Force, well written, structured and expressed in a flow of thoughts, story revealed truly in words, ups and downs in sentiment occurrence plotted and progressed nice with good introduction and conclusion.

Thank you. I apologize for the brevity of this submission, I will write more next time. There was a lot more to write about and I kind of just wanted to test the waters so to speak. The fact that my efforts were not totally rejected gives me the courage to go forward.

great story about how you entered the air force. Decisions are sometimes made for us. You are doing a really great thing by writing about your life and letting your children know who you are. I will continue to read.

Than you. In my mor than seventy years of life I have learned many lessons, chief among them is it pays to listen to the lessons taught by your mother as she loves you the most and her advice will usually save you in most situations.

It's funny how we never know what's going to happen in the future. Your account of how your plans changed dramatically is testament to that. The Air Force Sargent was right, you would have never caught up to Billy, unless by accident. Orders change constantly and you have no say in what happens. Thanks for sharing.

You are absolutely correct. In the end choosing the Air Force was a very good decision and I benefitted tremendously, although for a while it did not seem so as you will see.

How come, every story I read about someone joining up in one branch or other of the milatary it's always under a vague reason eg; unable to get a record deal, or the present job was boring. Don't people join up for deicated reasons, you seemed to join because of the colour of the Air Force uniform? Strange. Anyway good writing I'll keep reading.

Let me be very clear on something. As there was not at that time a compelling reasn, no war, no strife or anything like that. My primary concern was to find a way to improve my economic situation and prospects for the future and in 1960 Detroit, the military or Motown seemed the best prospects. No knowing what was to become of Motown, the military won out hands down. I later developed a dedication to the Air Force. Events that transpired in the country shook my dedication severely later on.

I have a feeling I am going to enjoy this, especially as I can comparye the military bits with my own experiences. although separated by a very large pond I have a sneaking suspicion that at their most fundamental there will be few differences as the ultimate requirement, to get a large body of people to do things willingly that they don't really want to do is the same whosever army-navy-or-air-force you happen to be in.

This is an encouraging start.

You are absolutely correct. In order for this great experiment to work you have to find a way to get people to agree to agree on certain behaviors. Also becoming trained to react to certain life saving commands on command is essential.

Hello, what an interesting story. I married an air force sergeant. He was at the end of his 30 years career when I married him. He told me some fun stories and some scary ones. He never went to war. He was a teacher. I look forward reading some more ....
