Delightful Karyn! We do know about this insect's proclivities. "Sex and dinner' - an excellent line.
Very nicely done.
Blessings

interesting connection with sex and dinner. our brains are wired so that the same part of it is stimulated by food and sex. so the connection between the pleasure of food and the pleasure of sex. estory

Very clever Karyn. I like the twist from dinner and sex to sex and dinner which in this case is literal. Great haiku and form:)

This is a fine haiku for insect challenge
The first two line set up the satori very nicely
Good touch of alliteration
I guess there are no promiscuous male mantis
it always one and done
Excellent presentation to match
Nicely done

LOL!! I have always known that the female kills the male after mating, but I never thought of it as 'sex and dinner.'
Your haiku is both humorous and well written. Haiku's are intimidating to me because I'm too verbose to limit myself to so few words. (Hence, I write prose!)
Thank you for sharing,

Hi friend, sounds horrible is not it?
But this is nature...a certain inner way of life. There is the funny side.. Dinner, one must have to survive .sex to procreate. There is no way out. I have read that the manyis even eat its own legs as it stood there forgetting they are his.

Karyn,
Don't you LOVE writing these? I'm having sooo much fun with them. I get into spells where all I want to do is just write haiku and senryu. My other writing falls by the wayside. --sigh--
This was fun!

Yeah, Robyn, I've been a fan of haiku/senryu for as long as I've been a FanStory member. I love writing them, and it's nice to have these short Japanese poems appreciated. Through the years, many writers ridiculed and insisted they weren't poetry...well, there's still some here that believe that, but the list of readers who enjoy them is increasing.
Thanks for your review and comments, Robyn.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Interesting image choice as the praying mantis seems to be raising its arms in triumph, much like an athlete. I guess that's one way of ensuring fidelity -- you've captured one of nature's savage moments with a bit of humor.
