I didn't know much about the praying mantis, so appreciate your author notes to fill me in. They are just like the black widow spider. I believe they do the same thing?
I think you did a fine job of your haiku. I'm no expert at writing them. I just enjoy reading them. I love a good aha moment.
It's like she prays, then has sex before dinner. kind of like eating dessert first. I'm glad we humans don't eat our mates.

I love that satori line, "sex and dinner". Actually, I'd emphasize "and", as "AND".
That gave you the extra star. The animal kingdom is gruesome, eh? But we all know that women are ruthless, as well as the stronger sex!
I count 4-7-4 syllables in this haiku.

This is an excellent haiku and I get and all too vivid orgy, smorg from your very creative first two lines. Your satori, "sex and dinner" and in that order is really the way of the preying mantis. I wonder if scientists have every figured out why they do this. I mean, it is black widow spider behaviour is it not?
And not to mention, you selected a fantastic photo, she looks most triumphant after her rendezvous and meal.

She has amazing footwork and should consider entering the 'Insects Got Talent' show. 'sex and dinner' is a wonderful satori to enlighten us. She got both, and her partner paid the tab. Hopefully, before her partner realized what was happening, he screamed out to others to stay away or they might become dessert. But her partner was probably dumb as a box of ants and thought the rest of his life would be a picnic.
Praying Mantis was a mascot for the KC Royals for awhile, and ultimately ended up in the KC Zoo looking for sex and dinner. Excellent job with this haiku. Enjoyed it, except the part where she chomped off my head.
An extra star for the amazing artwork and presentation.

Yeah... that is what this beautiful bug does. She eats and kills. Excellent haiku that captures the life of the praying mantis. They are beautiful though, I have a poem about them in my portfolio.
