Sweet magnolia tree, I can almost smell thee...right through this poem.
Lovely scented and first to burst in color. I can see why they would remind you of your mother. Well-written sentimental piece. Congratulations on your victory in the contest!

Thank you so much, Doc, for your positive feedback.. I am always afraid my male readers will find poems like "Walk" too sentimental. Rod

The scent of the magnolias is sure to bring back those memories with Ma. Your descriptive imagery sets the scene where you visit the gravesite and pause to remember. Very well written. Congratulations on your contest win.

This emotional poem, A Walk Among Magnolias, describes well the sights and smells of the setting. The poignant theme of an eternal remembrance within natures recurring celebration isdeeply meaningful to all of the readers who live those moments of reconnection.

A beautifully written poem, very unusual with five lines for each stanza and very cleverly written. It is just a suggestion but the last line might read better if you used the word 'fragrant'. But that's just my opinion, your poem is full of colour and life, love Dolly x

Thank you so much, Dolly, for sharing "Walk" and your thoughtful praise. I appreciate your suggestion, but "fragrance" is a noun describing what he stopped to smell. "Fragrant" is an adjective.

I noticed that you taught English for 40 years, so you know best! It was just a little poetic licence, love Dolly x

Whag a masterpiece! the emotion it fills in the reader and the expression it has especially this part 'I tried to skirt the square of stones
that marks Ma's final resting place,
but I was drawn by sweet cologne
of petals lying like pink lace
upon her plot where they had blown'
A great poem and have a nice day

This is a wonderful poem in remembrance of a mother. It touched me deeply, as I just lost my mother to cancer. My mom also loved Magnolia trees.

Oh what a masterful poem, and so worthy of the win! The imagery evoked is simply stunning, the rhyme and meter sublime. Now I will have to read the poem that tied this jewel of perfection!

Your superlatives (both praise and stars) have made my day, and thank you, too, for the congrats. I don't hear the word "masterful" very often, so that likely will be echoing nicely in my head all day. Many thanks. Rod

Well-deserved! You're most welcome.

Really enjoyed this beautiful poem. Such an emotional write that flowed wonderfully well from start to finish. The last stanza was particularly special and a fitting ending to your lovely words.
Thanks for sharing
