I like this story.
'I've forgotten the second thing' is a clever line.
You've made some serious points in an entertaining way.
At least she laughed. Most kids think if they're caught smiling they'll be labeled as sissies.
The analogies are great.

    Thanks for reading, Marv,
Most of what I write about people is pure fiction - in other words, the funny side. All that about granddaughter is fiction, though she is a sweetie. She probably wouldn't have laughed.

I love your concluding comment. "Watch it, bud!" strikes just the right note. I believe kids are encouraged in school to think they have superior knowledge. Funny that you find yourself using your mother's comments. I remember several of my mother's, such as always wear clean underwear in case you're in an accident." She could always predict when company was coming. I like your word ancientness. Great essay. judi

heavens, did all mothers say that - about clean underwear and accidents? too funny.
another thing Mom used to do that I do and hysterically now my daughter does is when you want to call a kid you say all of the others' names before the right name comes out.
    thanks for the neat review.

Children get to an age very quickly where they suddenly think they have all the wisdom of the ages. How this could be when they haven't lived very long is puzzling. Unforunately, they won't realize how wrong they are until they become parents, and discover how little they really know; because their children know everything.

Funny stuff. I enjoyed your ramblings. I grew up in Georgia and still have family in St. Simon's, so I know the area well. You're right marsh mud sucks. I think we Georgians have an affinity for analogies.

Take care,
Russell

Well, I'll be. We used to have a house down on 13th at St. Simon's. Fun years in the summers down there. A few years ago some friends and I took a driving trip around the south and we stopped by St Simons. I wanted them to see Sea Island - just drive through, but there was a gate barring access. I couldn't believe that we couldn't go in. Have you seen the house that HGTV is "raffling" off on the internet? Can't figure out where on St Simon's it is. Huge.

Nice! I haven't seen that show, but Iused to stay down on East Beach. It was somewhere, maybe eleventh street, my family would go during Thanksgiving. The first year my Dad stopped at almost every street, looking for the turn. We told him the streets were in numerical order and laughed. To this day, he'll never live it down. Have a great day!

Katharine,

Great words! And things I think that all of us parents can relate to. I adore the 'iota' story. That sounds just like one of my own children! They can be so fun AND so frustrating! Thanks for sharing!

How very clever! You have a wonderful sense of humor.
I love the relationship between you and your granddaughter. I'm sure she absolutely adores you. You sound like a wonderful grandmother.
I like the t-shirt idea!! I teach high school, and would love to pass some of those around.

Take care
Rhonda

    thank you very much.
My granddaughter and I do have a great relationship, but I must confess I made up the part about her tee. She would never wear such a thing. Poetic license at work.
I read about your program. That is excellent!

Hey, I mess with my kids in my stories all the time. Oh, and my poor husband, too! Good thing they love us.

Thank you for the review on my program. That really does mean a lot!!

Boy, can I relate to this ramble! I laughed when you write that when you open your mouth, your mother emerges. Ain't that the truth! Kids are smart today and have to show us how technology works, but we (the ones getting sucked by the mud) know a thing or two. Oh well, I guess the younger generation is going to have to live and learn.
I think you mean 'fount' of knowledge.
