In my opinion, this is a complete story in a poem, well constructed and lyric in presentation - smooth in its rhythmical flow...

This haiku, Arctic Neighbors, has the 5-7-5 ending with two of those words folks will question as being only one syllable. You and I know, but seemingly everyone else will say, "Woah". Beluga whales don't eat polar bears, do they?

Good Haiku Mermaids about wondering Beluga whales are smiling about when swimming in Arctic water.

Bet they aren't smiling they devolved a frozen smile

So true, they are one of my favorite mammals, I think I got that right. My daughter got to swim with them and she was enthralled. this is excellent

I can't imagine whales smiling. Food is probably on their minds when they are. I've been hearing lectures about the melting ice and its effect on some of the animal life. I certainly not want to spend any time in that environment, but the wildlife has adapted to the cold, cold conditions. Excellent entry for the Haiku book. judi

Thanks for reading and enjoying. Yes, the ice is melting which affects the animals. Hopefully, the polar bears will survive. Elaine

The artic is too cold for me but it is wild life area and they must adjust to their ways of life in order to survive. Whales have a big appetite to satasfiy ones hunger.

It may seem like an inhospitable environment, but these neighbors seem to get along well. The cold water and air seem to welcome them.

Since the beluga whale is in its element, in spite of the icy discomfort I would not want any part of, he/she could easily be smiling with that primitive wide mouthed feature. No reason to think it's not a smile.
