Fire expect fire engines I guess but the rain, rain that we need so much for growing cooling once again gives mankind a hand up, easy reading and very good writing.

This makes me want to read a super intense sci-fi novel and get lost in a place of colliding forces, and the best part is, I can put it down whenever I want. This makes me want to praise books and also earth in general.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

A very well-written poem. Sometimes the fire is even too much for the fire enjns and the only thing that can take out a blazing fire is when it starts to rain.

A very well-written contest entry. Your words flowed well line to line combining easily and forming the message of the poem for the reader. This is a beautiful poem.

Hi - a well rhymed and metered poem with excellent display. I am not quite sure what the ode is too, but I would think it is Mother Nature - 'So Mother Nature wins again' - this is a good read on a good subject and I wish you good luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy

Thank you Dorothy, for your kind review and stars, all much appreciated! HIS GRAYNESS...Vance...BTW, the guide for the ode suggested meter ie: the great James Taylor song...'FIRE AND RAIN. if you know it, my words replace that lyrics. Vance

This is a powerful poem that could be interpreted a couple of different ways. Not sure if it's really an ode or not - if so, perhaps an ode to fire? This probably would have been been a better entry in the Fire and Rain contest. Regardless, it is a very well written poem.

Thanks RightPics, for the kind review and stars, all very appreciated. As to the ODE guidelines, the contest presented example of James Taylor lyric from the song...FIRE AND RAIN. if you know the music, my poem will replace the old lyric. Thanks! HIS GRAYNESS: Vance

Like the poem, but think it should be entered in the Fire and Rain contest instead of as a ode poem. You never directly stated who the ode is dedicated to. Is it the fire, the rain, or mother nature. Nonetheless, it is a well-written poem. Good luck in the contest!

Hi Doc, and thanks for the kind and generous review. The contest suggested an ode example of James Taylor's popular song "Fire and Rain...which I replaced. with my entry as an entry. If you remember the song, my lyrics here should make sense. Many thanks HIS GRAYNESS: .... Vance

Dear Mystery Writer,

With your opening lines, you had me entranced! I really enjoyed this poem! Thanks!

Loved these:

Oh how the fire hates the rain
How it drives its brilliant embers
Down the drain
Turns its raging heat to cloudy steam

I really like how you have rain set up as fire's nemesis. This is beautifully written in excellent meter and lovely rhyme. The presentation is wonderful and I love the image you selected.
Best of luck with the contest.

I liked this.
Good rhymes that worked well and provided a good rhythm and pace to the piece.
I live in a rural area and the threat of bushfire is always there, the imagery in this piece reminded me of that, along with the power of mother nature, with her downpours to extinguish the blaze.
Well done.
