Like your creative thinking and putting a story to fit the contest requirement together. The title, picture and content create a perfect image of the events that led to your father's new nick name "Bloody plowman". I wonder if I would be able to look at a red apple the same again after this:) wish you all the best in the contest

Excellent. My father owned a fruit farm and raised apples as well as cherries and peaches. I think he found the name amusing.

What an incredible story.
I liked the fact that it is actually a true story, not only of your father but also the plough (or plow as it is spelt in American English) apple.
I hope you still have the love and joy in life that brought you and your husband together, despite the unfortunate attack by the bull.

Thank you. I spelled it plough because the name of the apple is actually spelled that way. It seems wrong to me but not in this case.

Wonderful little story. It is so nice to hear of what people did in the 'old days.' Very interesting and told well. Great that you remember this as a child. The tidbit about the history of the apple's name is interesting, too.

What an interesting anecdote. As short as your story was, it was complete and well written, besides being educational. I always feel it is great when you can learn something new from reading someone's writings.

Thanks for reading and sharing your comments. My father carried the nickname his whole life.

Great little story. Must have been both scary and painful, but he earned his nickname. I have not heard of that apple, but it has a colorful history! :)

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. FanStory wanted me to promote this story again so I finally did. Glad you like it.

Pretty--
Couldn't quite figure out what the heck the apple had to do with anything here but see that it is a contest. I like this story and the picture is wonderful. Yellow jackets are really something, particularly in the fall. My wife and I and the dogs have been attacked by them and my son's allergic, swells up like a balloon, has to carry an Epipen everywhere.
Thanks

Thank you, Bob. The team of horses in the picture is the one my dad was using when he plowed the nest up. It was several years before I was born.
