A very well-written horror poem. It must have been a horrific experience. We often blame ourselves unnecessary for something that would have happened anyway.

thank you. I was later told that there's nothing to be done when the Thymus ruptures, but still...

What a horrible thing to happen and so odd too. It was a personal horror but you managed to make it one for all especially with the last 2 lines which made it creepy.

thank you for your positive feedback. I hoped it would be horror for all - you're the only one who thought so. I appreciate that.

That is indeed a horrifying poem. So sad. And yes, horrible nightmare. It rhymes. I have no suggestions for improvement. Makes me wanna hug my cat. Except he's sleeping and he'd probably be really annoyed.

A well-written contest entry. Your words flowed well line to line combining easily and forming the message of the poem for the reader. This is a different form of horror and I think a unique twist to the contest well done.

well, thanks, winnona. It was a horror for me, but have been gently chastised that it wouldn't be to readers. anyway, thanks!

This is to be appreciated by not only the mind, but the deepest parts of your heart. So heartrending it made me sob. I would say it is emotional rather than horror-but then it is so horrifying it HAS to count as horror. I am so sad for your loss, it is truly very hard to read because it is SO sad though. kind regards Meia x

My heart goes out to you and this is a deeply sad story. I would have been devasted. I have 3 dogs myself, they are part of our family.
As lovely and poignant as this poem is, I have to be very honest, this was a horrifying experience for you. But from the reader's point of view (or at least mine) it does not read as a horror or thriller.
I am so sorry for your loss, I truly am. Blessings

Lu, that is so sweet and I really appreciate your kindness. I realized after submitting that it wasn't really horror to anyone else, but too late. It was done. That's okay. I've gotten some mighty nice responses, anyway. thanks again.

One does not expect a puppy to die unless it's done something rash like chase a car. The poem evokes sympathy for the speaker who could not save his pet. Although the event is tragic, I do not see the poem as depicting HORROR.

Well, probably not,, but I was horrified when I realized I might've saved her if I'd been home, Maybe noticed sooner that something was wrong. It was horrifying to me. But that doesn't count, I guess.

This is a very sad story, Anonymous Author, and anyone who has a pet they love dearly, especially dogs, will easily be able to relate to this.
Best of luck in the contest.
I'm so sorry about your dog.
