A poignant poem Teresa. . .
With the use of "puppy" it congers up images of an orphan
longing to be adopted. . .but never chosen.
But the longer I think about it, the more it seems to be about
a woman who wants to be loved, who has metaphorically
closed the door - but secretly hopes someone will have the
courage to turn the knob and usher in love.
Nicely done T :-)
One very minor thought - and purely a matter of personal taste:
I might consider breaking up/re-arranging:
warm and eager like a puppy
to a new home.
as
warm and eager
like a puppy to a new home.
Just a thought :-)

With what you wrote about her, it perfectly describes her - wants to be loved, but closes the door, but hopes someone will open it.
I like your suggestion and will probably do that. THanks for you always helpful reviews:)

Very interesting to read
yes we all have our special
ways within our lives
how we observe others
and maybe we can learn from them
we are all different within our ways.
Great to read.

This is a heart-touching story , and you open your heart in the telling.
You create the character slowly, using a nice blend of nouns and verbs.
I hope that your friend finds the strength to trust again.
Thanks for sharing,
Gene

You could have been writing for those I know so well...I teach a" Whole Again" group for those grieving and experiencing loss of any kind. May I have permission to read this to my group? I know they will love it as do I.

Hi Tab,
It was nice reading your poem that you wrote about one of your friends.
I really enjoyed reading it and will look forward to more of your work.
I'm finally back on FS although it seemed to take forever before my money for this year got to them.

Dear Teresa, she sounds trapped somehow within herself. I think you managed to bring those points to the surface and still share the flower and her beauty though never picked.
Thanks for sharing.

Lord Alfred Tennyson in his poem titled, "In Memoriam A.H.H.," once wrote:
"I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all."
I think your friend Kim would agree with me on the following point.
The man had no idea what in the hell he was talking about.
Nice work, Teresa.

A picture of too many people on this earth. Some, like me, no longer reach out because the one who shaped their life for so long died, and starting over is too much effort. I think treachery is easier to forgive and forget. Excellent post.

A persons eyes can tell you a lot and the smile you can weather it is forced or not.she may be afraid of being disappointed or keep from getting hurt.Just being her friend means a lot to her and just knowing you caress enough for right now.
