This tells the story of how love had to be hidden for people of different class and color. It is sad when love can be a dishonor and no friends and family will help.
This Duchess was way ahead of her time and shows how all should be treated.
It is good this couple got their 'happily ever after'.

Keep writing

Wow Sandra A beautiful poem with such a nice story that had a happy ending. Your engaging ryhme and meter made this really a good read ( although the font was tiny and the yellow background made it hard to read) but another magic poem from you I do enjoy your work. Cheers Christine

Biggest ever hugs for all that help, my friend. I dashed straight in and made the corrections. I'm glad you liked it. I thought it was time to have a happy ending story/poem, there is too much sadness and anger in the world today. xxx Sandra :))

This was like reading a mini romance novel :). What a delightful read! The distinction between the classes weighed heavily back then and even now it has a tendency to rear its ugly head when there is 'something not quite right' about the intended family connection. I always root for the underdog so was happy to see that they ended up happily ever after due to the kindness of the Duchess (I wonder if it was the Duchess of Devonshire as she would certainly have related to their plight). Nicely done and thank you very much for sharing it.

A well-written poem. The words flowed well and combined easily forming the story of the poem very well. The beautiful artwork and well-chosen background color

Outstanding! Excellent! And I'll stop there.

This is a beautiful story and so beautifully written. I was completely engrossed in it.

I was afraid they were going to walk into the sea together. Thank goodness, there was someone with a good heart to give them help.

Which came first - the story or the picture?

The poem came first, and that was by accident. I was looking in a catalogue for summer clothes, (I thought it might warm me up!) and I saw some parasols, and suddenly I went all whimsical! LOL. It was easy to find the lady with the parasol on Google images. I always feel so encouraged when people enjoy my poems, and I just loved your review, thank you so very much, my friend and a big hug for the 6 stars. :) Sandra xxx

Sandra,

YAY! I just knew - when they were sitting by the ocean - that they were going to commit suicide! So glad someone stepped up to care for them and their predicament! YAY! Great story!!

Another great poem with terrific rhyme and rhythm. There was only one line that I had to read twice and the rhythm was there if read correctly. Thanks for sharing this lovely story poem. Drew
