I am not familiar with the Arctic Tern so you taught me something here. This little bird has quite a range. I can imagine him flying to the moon and back. You have definitely created an image of nature here.

What an interesting little bird. The poem expresses the feel of the little traveler well. The words flow giving the little guy a very good reputation as a world traveler. Very well done.

Your haiku still sounds like a statement and that is fine. I prefer haiku with insightful punchline LoL Haiku derives from Zen culture.
You are on the right path and with a couple of small adjustments you are going to have a fantastic haiku.
Here are some suggestions:
Arctic Tern flies to the
moon and back three times!
wasted frequent miles
