The hummingbird is an icon of the American Naturalist and simple gardeners like me. The bird must have descended from the tiniest of dinosaurs-and if you compare the skull structure, bills, feet and scales(Feathers are a modifies scale) you will see that they are very comparable. The 6 mile-diameter asteroid that hit off the coast of Yucatan 66 million ears ago and killed 90% of life(Including most of the dinosaurs) on earth gave rise to us, the Mammals.
The few Dinos that survived have evolved into the delightful avians that cheer and amuse us evoled from the remains of the reptile world.
Good work!

Hello, Darren,
Good job with your challenge haiku about birds. Your observation about hummingbirds is quite correct. My daughter had them for a while and she had to refill the sugar water feeder all the time. It was fun to watch them move so fast... they are like tiny crack addicts. LoL nag, just kidding. They are really cute :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and review. Yes, haha, that is a quite accurate simile, and a humorously appropriate comparison. I understood and embraced your perception.
I really appreciate your comments, and it is a daily joy to have an instantly gratifying "fix" every day myself. It's the new "poetcrack" lol

Very sweet! (no pun intended :) -Couldn't help myself, but "sipping sweet nectar' was a brilliant ending, offering perfect resolution to the ending. Interesting tidbit on hummingbirds being able to fly backwards! Thanks for including that, Blessings, AmyJo

Thanks for taking the time to read and review, it is always a pleasure to hear from you.
I was considering "sugar" for the last word alternatively. Thanks for the pun!

This haiku, Dine and Dash, uses its seventeen syllables to capture for the reader the flitting, zipping, and super fast hummingbird as it floats between me nectar producing plants. Nice.
