This is a very good haiku you have penned. That is a most unusual bird picture. You used very good descriptive wording and imagery. Best wishes in the contest. Blessings, Teri

Right, Brenda? They're such interesting birds, too.
I watched a two-hour long documentary on the Shoebill on the BBC network.
    Fascinating.
    Thanks for reading.

Ah, what a beautiful creature, indeed!
Leave it to you to find an insanely creepy bird that eats crocodiles!
I love the play on words at the end. Made me laugh.

Have a great day,
Rhonda

Another successful haiku, but I have to say I was facinated by the video of the shoebill and b your explanation of the species. Thanks for sharing

I have never heard of a Shoebill before, DeanO. Ugly suckers aren't they? Sounds like they are on the scavenger side of the bird spectrum. At any rate, I like the play on words in your haiku, my friend. Bob

Aren't they though, Bob? Weird lookin', I mean?
I watched a two hour BBC documentary on these amazing birds.
They're completely harmless to humans (thank God!).
Much obliged for your review, my friend.

Great photo's that complement your little poem perfectly. You are so brave to go outside your comfort zone. A well written Haiku about this ugly bird, already when he is just a chick. Thanks for the foot note.

    He's downright prehistoric looking, Ine!
    But virtually harmless to humans.
    Thanks for reading.
Have a great (stork free) day.

This is very good Dean. Good use of alliteration with the letter S - Shoebill Stork Stares. Good use of homophone with the word 'fowl/foul' - very clever. Lines one and two interconnect perfectly and your line three is a good satori and play on words. Well done. Weird looking bird - you chose a good one. Dorothy - I like 'tweetment' how someone with a lithp would say treatment LOL

My thoughts exactly concerning the satori, Dorothy.
I decided to be a bit flippant with this haiku, just yo have a little bit of fun.
We can't be expected to be so serious all of the time, right?
Thanks for reading. I appreciate your comments.

You picked an interesting animal to write about but you did it so ...well...your way.
A lovingly scary...does that make sense? Sure it does.
You did the two lines perfectly and with the prehistoric look it does have a look all its own. Then the play on treatment...nicely done

Hi Dean,

The alliteration and the play on words make this a delightful read, despite the fowl nature of that bird. It is none to pretty either, is it? lol You haiku is in good form, complete with humor.

Good job!

Kim

No, Kim, the thing is downright prehistoric looking.
It seems harmless enough, and very docile and respectful towards humans however.
I guess it's true what they say. You can't always judge a book by it's cover or a bird by it's beak.
    Much obliged.
