What terribly sad music to accompany this touching, yet sorrowful poem. 'The Way We Were' was such a sad movie of my youth, and fits prefectly with this regretful
sonnet.

Stongest stanza for me personally:

and resurrection lives beyond my reach!
His silence tells me I have been a fool,
for like His footprints on a sandy beach,
he carried me when life had been too cruel.

Dawn this is such a beautiful sonnet and so very sad, remembering what has been lost forever. A cold winter indeed is in store. Good luck in the contest. A Hug. Ulla:)))

Hi Dawn...a sonnet! Wow. VERY nicely done. Fitting for this cold night too. Listen, I know you're struggling. But at least you didn't sell yourself out by staying in a cold relationship. I admire that you are braving it on your own...x

What are you talking about? Jesus, not you - you HAVE to know better. We are WRITERS. We INVENT. Susan, even if this were true, do you honestly think I would want it splashed all over the internet, floating in cyberspace forever?

I DIDN'T SELL MYSELF OUT, STAYING IN A COLD RELATIONSHIP? Be serious, please. LOL I am struggling alright, with poor health, finances, and crappy neighbors.

    Thanks for reviewing.

So sorry Dawn. I'm the one who sold myself out. Best wishes for all you do!

A very touching poem to tell of how the winter will come. Things we would be willing to do differently if only the chance. Life seems so short sometimes, and yet other times it seems to drag on. Memories can be a killer or a healer, I pray your new year is filled with blessings.

This is a lovely sonnet where we meet a speaker who regrets "what she did to make him leave" and would give anything to get him back. I like how she finds the memories both "sweet" and "hell[ish]," She admits to being a "fool," but regret alone won't bring him back. Flawless meter and natural rhymes add to the beauty of this fine work. Rod

I like the use of Summer as a metaphor for a return to love. He left you becase he couldn't trust your love. Now you wish he would come back but know he probably won't because it is hard to regain trust to love can return.

I can relate to this poem. So many of us have a special person we cannot stop thinking of. Knowing we cannot go back and change the past, makes it so much harder when the memories resurface. Beautiful work with this and I wish you all the best in the contest. Keep up the great work.

I thought it would be a religious piece when I saw the picture. However I see it has to do with romance, love gone wrong. It is a well written sonnet filled with a full measure of regret. Well done. XXX Nancy
