You told this story well. If gossip is de fined as being malicious in intent, you were not gossiping. Part of being human is telling and hearing stories about others. All of us learn many lessons in life not based upon our own experiences. Perhaps, in the end, you and your friend are closer now than you would be if all of this had never happened. Who knows? It's always a tough call. Thank you for making me think about it.

Thank you for reading and commenting. It was a hard lesson but one I needed to learn. My mother provided the kick in the butt I had coming.

this story illustrates the nature of speaking unadvisedly and also how fragile relationships can be so the need to care for them tenderly , be willing to forgive for the relationship is worth more than the moment of pain

Mom's always right. That's what she used to tell me anyway.

It's uncanny how we can't see ourselves as part of the problem sometimes. I'm sure it was a hard time for both of you. You tell the story truthfully and it flows well. Good luck in the contest.

This is a fine tale of rights and wrongs. Wrongs committed and things made right.
A superb ending with lessons learned. And all of it told so well.
Thanks for sharing.

Stunning work and worthy of a great deal of praise. Conversation is realistic and believable. Well described visuals, an impressive story which is both honest and heartfelt and enhanced by the fabulous picture. Great details and real emotion make this a standout piece of work.well done.

Good story, and you laid it out in plain text, easy to read. I understand how you felt, and it is difficult to self-reflect. Sometimes someone else has to point it out to us. I will be posting a similar story, so please become a fan. Not sure what I will call it, but it is about 3 of my friends and a sorry no good man. Good luck in the contest.

Glad you have a best friend for years. Yes, gossip hurts and harms each other.
Now, you are mended and can be friends forever. I like the story and the suspense. Do you ride horses? We have snow here. Have a great new year. flylikeaneagle

Thank you. Yep, I learned a hard lesson. No, I don't have horses anymore, but used to ride every week and go to parades in the summer. We have a lot of snow here in Michigan too.

It doesn't take much for a tiny little story to grow into such a huge event that can destroy marriages' lives friendships. It has happened to me only once. I relayed a tiny bit of gossip I had been led to believe was 'gospel' it wasn't. It cost me my job and the trust and respect of quite a lot of people. Never again. Sincerely Anne.

Thank you. Wow, it sounds like the gossip business hit you hard. I would like to here about it sometime. I know I felt like the lowest life form when my niece came charging into my workplace that day.

This is quite a story, April. and the thing is it is so well written and easy to follow. Life's lessons are truly hard sometimes and we do learn hopefully, don't we. I am glad you two made up. It would be a shame to leave things as they were and have one of you pass away with that not settled. Bless you, fine job, my friend. Bob

Thank you, Bob. Yep, that was one hard lesson to swallow, but I needed a good kick in the keister and my mother provided it. I will be forever grateful to her.

four-thirty of five -- or
look of pure hate; - hatred

HURT in my WHOLE LIFE. I considered (that) what she did (was) an insult of the highest order. I was HURT more than I cared to admit. I loved Sandy like a sister my WHOLE LIFE. - you might want to take another look at this -- you've mentioned "hurt" and "whole life" twice in a short space --- perhaps - I had always loved Sandly like a sister...

Just a thought.

I don't think you ever really loose a friend like that - I have a friend whom I met when I first left school at 17 and we both started in the same office together. When we see each other, we just pick up where we left off.

Most enjoyable.
Margaret

Thank you for the catch, Margaret. I try not to overuse words but still slip once in a while. I wrote this story in a bit of a hurry too as I'm working on getting my rank up for the first of the year. One more short story sometime today and I will be ranked again.
