LOL Well thank goodness this chapter had a tasty ending Tony! Your ferry ride sounded like da bomb once it got moving (loved the white knuckled descriptions haha) and your journey across whipping waves with plumes of spray sounded fantastic. Murphy's Law says you get their luggage and vica versa...but it could be interesting if you run out of clothes before you meet up with them haha...You may know a LOT more about them than you did prior to delving into their (now yours) luggage LMAO
Vivid and colourful both in scenery AND the travel-logging. Am enjoying it very much.
I love the way your write. Highly entertaining and amusing and many giggles along the way.
Well written. BTW Do you have ANY books out??

Thanks, P. Yes - we had much the same sort of conversation about the clothes with Tom and Jeanette over a couple of beers, when we eventually met up with them again!
No books of prose. I have an idea for one or two but not the tenacity or discipline to follow through with it! However, I have had a couple of books of poems published by a local Adelaide publisher, and there's a third in his hands, which has been accepted for publication, probably around August.

Tony, this chapter shines with your descriptive talent that allows the reader to envision your surroundings and feel part of the boat trip. Loved the Captain with the Guinness and your descriptions of the oassengers.., both the white-knuckled ones and more relaxed ones. Great read.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Very entertaining, Tony;
-unlike many other stories that I read and those that I've watched on TV over vacationing people, like those on KQED that show the same type of travels of other people, yours is much more in detail right down to the rings and such on another vacationers fingers. Also, the intensity of this imagery is descriptively definitive and demonstratively and vividly expressive in such detail: "There are also various tanned youths in t-shirts, a German couple, holidaymakers like ourselves, two old men, faces weathered by sun and sea and, opposite me, an amazing apparition clutching a black cotton bag containing a violet plastic thermos with a pink lid. She's a baby-faced girl, eighteen, perhaps, hair twisted into thin braids, tightly drawn to expose neat furrows of scalp, all wound up in a loose bundle at the back."
- I also felt the eeriness, especially from you and your partner, when you felt the water line of the boat was a little bit too high for comfort in the ways are splashing out across the bow too much for your liking.
-Also, the uneasiness that you felt when your suitcases and other gear was mistaken for years and left with your adjoining partners on another boat. But finally, when you finally met at San Pedro everything was set together fine. It was probably nice to have your packages and suitcases brought together to yourselves again.
-Thanks for sharing this Tony I really enjoyed reading this it was like being there and that's is what's so special in reading your adventures.

I kept a fairly detailed journal of this trip, which explains the depth of incidental detail. Much of that would have been lost otherwise, as it was 17 years ago.

Wow! I'm so glad you kept an intricate Journal of your travels during this adventure and so glad you found them as they are so much fun to read the details so vividly and clearly. It makes you actually feel like you're there. Also, you're very welcome Tony.

This is very well written and very interesting. I wish more people would write of their travel adventures. You have a great sense of humor about the trip, my friend~Debbie

Thanks, Debbie. I'm trying to keep the tone light and personal so that the writing is lifted beyond what one might find in a travel brochure.

Another fine section to your story--with rich detail and colorful characters delivered in a well-paced style (even with the long sentences that unfold here and there--all well paced and un-clumsy).

A few suggestions:

Spell out the numbers here:

Ambergris Caye is a thin coral island about 25 miles long which lies at the northern end of Belize's 165 miles of barrier reef,

and here:

a 3-year old piccaninny girl lies fast asleep,

and here:

The Sun Breeze Beach Hotel lies 200 yards south along the seafront.

*

Somewhat nervously(,) she asks what it is.

Eventually(,) we arrive at San Pedro,

*Our luggage is tossed onto a handcart and we stroll along the seafront.

We toss our luggage onto a handcart and we stroll along the seafront.

On to the next part...

Warmly, rd

Hi there,

You certainly have a skill for depicting the scene. Very vivid and enticing. Great attention to detail that feels natural.

"Hey there, man, come aboard! Dis is de Caribbean Lady! Ain't she jus' a real beauty, huh!"
- I was wondering about 'there' at the start of this sentences. All other words that begin 'T' are presented as 'D' in the dialect, would this not be so also?

Nice continuation.

Oh my! I hope you had some Dramamine or ginger or whatever you take for motion sickness. I can't imagine eating after such a ride. But it is quite an adventure. Your descriptions are humorous and after all the baby descriptions, the raccoon is quite unexpected.

It was certainly a wild ride, but fortunately none of us suffered from motion sickness. Thanks for your review!

Quite an adventure, indeed. I enjoyed how you described the settings and characters in detail. I could visualize the scene. Adding excitement, fear, and finally a cold beer into the mix, was refreshing. Thanks for sharing this experience.

LOL, Tony, this holiday of yours sounds unreal! I am waiting for the last part to see if you would do it all again, it's hilarious. I loved the air-conditioning! I could see you and your wife all dripping wet and climbing precariously into another boat, which, I must say sounded a lot safer. I'm really pleased you got there in one piece and found your luggage waiting for you. I'm looking forward to your next part! :) Sandra xxx
