A very well-written picture this challenge poem. The poem told a very good story with the details and realistic events in the man's world. The message of kindness and hope prevails with the ending. Very well done.

Well done, Sandra. Your take on the picture ends up being one of hope in a very real situation that often doesn't have any. Not every homeless person is on drugs or drink, although I can imagine how many end up going down that route when they lose all hope.
Well done!

Emotionally charged and racing, this free verse prose evokes despair. Although I identified with the "original" Black Friday, otherwise known as the Wall Street crash, this style of writing is timeless, and can be applied then and now.
Perfect image, and thought provoking.

Thank you, Brother Badger, for this lovely review. It is a fact that we could be talking about different times but the same topic. It's sad, isn't it, and wrong. :( Sandra xx

Unfortunately, a tale of the times. . .powerfully told.
It is shocking to realize how close to the edge we all
live these days. And the price we pay as members
of this truly money driven society. The cost of just
bare essentials and the failure for wages to rise in
equal measure PLUS the callousness with which
businesses close their doors (not to mention the
frequency) - has left large swaths of our citizenry
vulnerable to falling into this situation. . .and, oh,
how the building blocks tumble - like dominoes!
I'm glad your main character found salvation - but
at the same time. . .in today's world. . .it sounds more
like a fairy tale than a Aesop's Fable :-(
Well done Sandra :-)

It is an unfortunate sign of the times, Leineco, and it shouldn't be. We are in the 21st century and seem to be going backwards. My character was given a nice ending, but as you say, today it is most unlikely that would happen. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on my take of the picture. I agree with all you say. Sandra,
This was great. I loved the manner in which you brought warmth to such a cold picture. The love shown is how we all should be. Have a great week. God bless.

Lost job, lost wages, lost family, lost hope.
Then a stranger's kindness lifts him from the brink of death.
You're perfectly rhymed verse give testament to human kindness which we need so much more of in these selfish times.
Best wishes,
:) e

Thank you, Ellen. It seems to me most people are embarrassed to show kindness to a down and out person. Which is a shame, we don't know if we might be in the same position one day, it doesn't take much these days to lose it all. Thanks again, my friend, I'm glad you liked my take on the picture. :) Sandra xx

It doesn't take much to smile at an elderly stranger, either.
I know I appreciate it.

A very well-written poem and interpretation of the 'picture this' challenge. It doesn't matter his bad a situation seems to be there is always hope for change for the better.

A very good contest piece. I was thinking about how cold this old boy must be as I remember days as a young soldier living in a fox hole. Best to you, Sandy.

Whenever we see someone so unfortunate we should thank our lucky stars, for that lonesome, miserable soul, cold and hungry could have very well been us. Thanks for another fine poem. :-)

That is exactly my thoughts, Ric, I'm glad you think the same way. Thank you for reading my take on the picture, I thought I would give this man a nice ending, it is a bit of a fantasy though, isn't it. So sad. Thanks again, my dear friend. :) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra, what a beautiful interpretation. It's wonderful. You know, I don't know the first thing about meter and all that, but I want to say how beautiful it reads. Hugs. Ulla xxx
