No meter is ever necessary nor is it expected or required for such a heartfelt poem, Portia.
All that truly matters is that it honors your dear mother's memory, and that her daughter wrote it as a poetic ode to her.
That is all we need to know and more than a good enough reason.
As I told you in a correspondence just prior to Christmas, I am truly sorry for your loss.

My sincere sympathy on the loss of your dear Mother and I have seen from past poems the love and closeness you shared and isn't that wonderful, You will have so many lovely memories to hang onto. Your faith supports you and lifts your spirit, which is a gift worth honoring, and you do it quite well. The whole presentation is marvelous. The photo of your mother looks so much like you. You must be proud. I love the flow and rhymes you use. I especially like the line, "Your body returns to dust from whence it came". That is true for all of us. I loved "Too Soon," by Irish Rain, as well. You have good friends here at FS. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and faith for all to witness.

I am so blessed to have you as a friend, your friendship means a great deal to me. Thank you for your review, six star rating and very kind and supportive words. I thank God for placing you in my life. I know God makes no mistakes and I too have my appointed time to die. It was like my mind...not my body, at all...just my mind, was transported from my body in the most peaceful experience ever. I was SO at rest, just pure happiness. Then I came back, ha ha. To doctors, needles, ect...BUT....also to my wonderful husband and family. Loved this. Glad you're back!!! Blessings, and Happy New Year!!!
