Tony, I enjoy your writing so much I just had to go back to the start of this and from the looks of the introduction your readers are in for a treat. I will try and catch up as soon as I can but want to enjoy it fully so bear with me.
Great intro to the tale of Yucatan as I have visions of you and the missus hurling yourself towards the departure gate. A terrific start, your descriptions are vivid and palpable but refreshing...I loved "collapsed into chaos"...too good. Your metal tube flight to the glitsy Miami sounded like a cack...especially Mr. Bean haha...from the grounded flights to shit scared aeroplanes I was delighted with your ying yang yarn...I can see I'm going to have to stash a number of sixers LOL
Great stuff Tony...look forward to catching up with the rest as soon as I can. Your writing is brilliant.
Hugs P

This is penned with good pacing and fine sentence mechanics with an abundance of detail and a clear POV. As a world traveler, I have been through some similar scenes.
However, I found the details a bit too many...for my taste, but they never slow the pacing. I enjoyed the overtone of wit. Curious what happens next in your journey....

I also liked the smattering of alliteration. Well done.

Warmly, rd

I've been on flights like yours. I was stuck at Toronto International during an electrical storm. Apparently, the planes cannot refuel because of potential lightning strikes and airplane fuel being a bad combination.
It was hot and muggy inside the terminal. Reading your story brought back many harrowing experiences, that one especially. I liked that you added a touch of humour - it's a god-send to have one - especially when the sardine next to you has BO, and smells like he is passing wind created by eating3 day dead comrades.

Despite the fact that I was aircrew in the RAF and flew well over 2000 hours, international air travel leaves me cold these days. Definitely to be endured rather than enjoyed! Thanks for your review and personal anecdote! Tony

Very many thanks for your review of the first part of my little travelogue, Pearl. I've been concentrating mainly on poetry for a couple of years but thought I'd try a bit more prose this year. I appreciate and value your encouraging remarks. Best wishes for a happy 2017.

'sensible sardines don't carry suitcases' I think I will make that my mantra, Tony! Lots of mantra friendly phrases in this account which was so much fun to read. Looking forward to part two, Giddy

Now, I find part one. Oh well, I enjoyed reading this part too. Now part two makes more sense. I can't wait for part three. I hope I don't miss it.

What an eventful day! I would not have enjoyed sitting by the guy who apparently ate beans either. At least you made it to Cancun!

I like the alliteration in the first line, gives a nice feel starting out.

uncomfortably aware that sensible sardines don't carry suitcases. - nice.

You use sporadic alliteration throughout which sadly is lacking in much prose these days. You use it to good effect.

They said the aircraft was unserviceable but I reckon it was just frightened. - nice personal observation brings a smile.

Very nice piece.

Tony, this is a lit of fun - you manage to turn what was probably a mind-numbing trip into a piece of light entertainment. Your slightly dry and often very droll commentary of the yin and yang of holiday travel had me smiling away, and i will definitely tine in for the next instalment.

Maybe you could write the next 'Year in Provence.'
