I do remember seeing this photo, but for the life of me I don't remember the story surrounding it. Was she a child bride, or a a victim of cultural genetailia disformation? Perhaps you could add her story in your notes for clarification.

Excellent in content, voice, as well as a sadness that her eyes evoke.

This girl was photographed by National Geographic when she was only twelve. Her picture became famous all over the world. Years later the photographer went back to look for her and found her. In case you want to Google her, her name is Sharbat Gula.
    Thanks for reading.

The photo of the young woman's eyes have so many stories to be told
Her eyes are beautiful just like her heart and soul. Why don't people see the inner part of her or. Do they fear her eyes are a curse?

I first saw this picture of a young Afghani woman on the cover of Time Magazine years ago and have often wondered how she faired.

I must be behind the times.
What is the picture so famous for?
Excellent piece speaking from her point of view, giving us a little history of her background and life

Google Sherbat Gula if you want, you'll learn more about her.
When this girl was twelve, a photographer took a picture of her for National Geographic (the one I've posted here). It became one of the most famous in history.
Years later, he went back to Afghanistan to look for her and eventually found her. Now at least National Geographic pays her and she's been able to send her daughters to school.
    Thanks for reading.

I really enjoyed this. It continues the native concept of stealing one's soul when taking a picture. I have seen this picture before but you added beautiful words and thoughts to it. Sometimes people forget to recognize one's culture when satisfying their own needs. Very well done, thank you for sharing.

You have done a very good job with this poem. The words flowed well line to line combining easily and forming the message of the poem for the readers. I really liked the line about the photo taking her soul. Many cultures believe the photo does capture your soul. Growing up in a mixed cultural home my Native American people believed that photos captured the soul.
I would like to say that I do not believe this but I have very few photos of myself anywhere.

A well written poem. It reminds me of kids that used to be on milk cartons because they had been abducted. Most were not found or had been killed.

This photo is so remarkable - and you're right, it's like the shot heard round the world. I appreciated your poem very much. Thanks for making it rhyme! That makes me happy! *smile*
