Maria, very nice. I love rhyming, but there are times when I sure struggle with it. I like to read others lovely poems that are free verse. I just can't write it. I enjoyed this. I think the first version is really cute.

Thanks for reading, Judy.
Just one question: what first version are you referring to?
-
I'm sure it was supposed to be verse. My crazy phone tries to correct whatever I type.
-
Now I understand. Thanks.

What "a sweet, heart-warming pic" to inspire your poem. I love the casualness and the messiness of your verse to match this surprising discovery. I enjoyed your delicate description of the vole which reminds me of a fairy. Did you take this picture or find it? This poem is a charming gift to Robyn and Linda. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I found the picture on Facebook and loved it because my daughter's name is Iris.
Thanks for reading.

A very well-written poem. We all are all unique in writing style and have our own preferences. We can just accept and enjoy each other in our differences.

Well, I like your poetry, too, Maria. This post is so cute. Photo is precious. You are talented to write both poetry and prose well. Little animals like the image of this one are irresistible. Marilyn

This was so sweet, and I am sure both Robyn and Linda appreciate your poem. It was well done, it rhymed where it was supposed to and didn't where it was not meant to. I adored the picture- the combination of two of nature's beauties at peace with each other. Great job, thanks.

LOL now that is what I call one for everyone. Prose, free verse, rhyming both abab and aabb. Wow all in one and you made it humorous too. Well no one can say I rated without judging...it is cute and perfect for all

Virus rhymes with iris
so does Molly Cyrus
But don't get to hung up on rhyme
All it will do is tire us!
Keep on rhyming don't ever stop
Give that prose a rest
then one day you can cop
being called a rhyming pest

Yeah, but virus is not a pretty word, Mark. I wanted something cuter.
Thanks for your review.

Maria, this was a fun read. I like rhyme too but most often write in free verse. I went to google search to find words that rhyme with iris and there is a long list of rank 1,2,&3 rhymes. I saved you from being bored because I didn't have the heart to copy and paste the words here. LOL

Thanks for reading, Patricia.
I use Rhyme Zone and there were no rhymes there that I found appropriate. What do you mean by rank 1,2 and 3 rhymes?
-
rank one would be very close rhyme, rank 2 would be near rhyme, and rank 3 would be maybe rhymes.
-
Thanks!

Darling photo, and cute poem. I especially like it because it is short and sweet and you did not force the issue on many levels about your choice of wording.
Short and sweet poems are my favorite. Using artwork that inspired you works.
Good job,
