This speaks volumes Roy! :)
You are right. We all have riches in our lives, some just see it in a different light. I see the riches in my life with faith, family and true friends. I know others don't see what they have & seek out the other that really has no value. I pray everyday & thank God for everything I have. I feel fortunate with my life.
Thank you for sharing this uplifting message.
Always your fan,
Shana :)

Roy, such a most exceptional, thought provoking but yet very poignant! After my Beth died in 1970, I became very angry and angry at God! Angry because I thought he would cure her cancer, but He didn't! Then when I realized why and understood that she came into my life to show me love and how to love! I never have Roy and now with a life filled with sadness and being alone, I realize how stupid I was!

My friend you write so eloquently with words filled with meaning and understanding! Very well written my friend.

Bless you and yours Roy,,,,,,,,,Jim

We can not all be as humble as Jesus of Nazareth. Jim Carey is like on the opposite side of the spectrum to prove a point. But where to find balance.... I enjoyed reading your poem. Well thought out and clearly written. Good flow of rhythm and rhymes. Nicely done.

This is a nice message. Sometimes I get focused on the daily rat race to try and get ahead only to be reminded that the gold comes from within. Well said. I like the Jim Carrey quote to enhance your message.

Very beautiful indeed. The rhyme is right on and the meter is equally good. The wording matches the color of gold and the message is so true.

As always, Roy, a terrific poem with good rhyming and content--but I'm LOL. So what is Jim Carey's point? It's always interesting to me that those who have made a gojillion bucks seem so ashamed of what they've achieved and must go viral with humility. Those who have it should enjoy it and not do mea culpa about it. I say, 'go for it.'

Most people in the world are normal, striving people like you and me who do not have a gojillion bucks, who do our best to stay afloat, be responsible, pay our bills, and have a happy family life. So you are correct, God gives us what we need to sustain us whether rich or poor. That's the gold for most people and for that we are grateful. Marilyn

I think he's merely riches and fame aren't what they're cracked up to be, for someone who knows, thanks for the great review, blessings, Roy

In my opinion God given gifts are to be used and enjoyed as long as we don't do anything to hurt anyone. I think those who have them should be proud of their accomplishments, but some seem to feel they have to identify with the common man, explain their success so to speak. The fact that they are successful encourages others to pursue their own gifts. Many rich and famous people are philanthropists. Maybe he's one, too. Isn't there a parable about the three servants and the talents? Just saying.

The scripture says "To whom much is given, much is required. "Luke 12:48" "Store up riches in Heaven, where moth and rust doth not corrupt" . Gifts given were meant to be shared. The Dead Sea is dead because it receives and does not give.Marilyn,

I think most people give back, don't you? You do, I do. Everybody seems pretty charitable. I'm talking about the parable, (although I'm not as knowledgeable as you are that's for sure) is about the master giving 'talents' to three servants. Two servants increase the amount (I equate this with using our God-given gifts) and one servant who 'buries' them (does nothing with them). I think we all try to use our own talent for our own enjoyment as well as God's praise. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter--just a comment. :)

Jesus was just concerned with being generous in all things, and not hoarding and withholding or sharing one's abundance, the cook, cook for others, abilities Etc.You know Marilyn, we all struggle a little with that.blessings, Roy

Hi Roy. Most times in our discussions (which we seem to often have) I think we may be coming to the same conclusion with different words. I think, as usual, the poem has good content, flow, rhyme. That's what I rated the piece on.

Aside from that, it's the celebrity comment that's throwing me off. What does he mean by it and what, if anything, is he going to do about it? Is he going to give everything away and sit on a mountain top in Tibet? I think not.

It prompts the question (to me anyhow) what's his motivation in sharing that comment? What does he hope to achieve by putting that out there? Why do you personally think he put it out there? You must admire him as most people do and think his comment elevated him in some way.

It prompts the question: Can someone be spiritual whether they are rich or poor? (My answer would be yes.) Is the person any less worthy or more worthy if they are one or the other? (My answer would be no.) Can that person be good or bad if rich or poor. (My answer would be yes.)

Then you said (above), "Jesus was just concerned with being generous in all things, and not hoarding and withholding or sharing one's abundance." Is Jim stingy or is he a philanthropist? Do we know? Do we care? Bounces back to my original review comment, "God gives us what we need to sustain us whether rich or poor. That's the gold for most people and for that we are grateful."

I'm surprised on the comments about the Jim Carrey thing, it was only an illustration of what the real treasures are, not the tangible but the intangible, I seem to have struck a nerve, I'm sorry. Marilyn, not my intention, bless you

No need to apologize, Roy. I enjoy our discussions. A big thing with me is someone's motivation. With celebrities, most of the time I think they are full of hot air. They say these things and I have to wonder what's behind it. They have a God-given talent which they are pursuing, enjoying, and reaping rewards for. God bless them for that. They are following their passion (like us writing for example). They are not sitting around like bumps on a log. Then out of left field they seem to feel the need to apologize for it. Why? Just enjoy it. I champion anyone who is a success. That's all there is to it.

God knows the good and precious stuff in each of us. People seem not be be able to see the goodness and value in people until there is an outer proof of it, say a medal or sainthood. Everyone should try to see this and work with it and maybe there would be more hope for love and peace.

Keep writing

If there be gold in me, methinks it's very, very deep. And I know lots of other dry claims, too. Another rhyming faith poem by Roy, a five star effort as always.

The "gold" is grace. It's already within us and our task
is to accept that grace. But there's another piece to this.
Grace is no only there even before we know it but it needs
to be shared. We must be willng to be graceful.
I have a lot of people who feel stuck with things that they've
said or failed to say; by things hey did and regret. If they
want to begin again, ackowledge the gift of grace and then
share it with others.
A great poem, Roy. I only wish we live close enough for coffee. Oh
the conversations we would have! -Bill
BTW I have a new Christmas CD out and available for $10.

Hi Roy,
I wish I still had a six to give you. This is so beautifully written.
If only we could all grasp that there is richness within man that is already there and cannot be replicated by seeking the physical riches in life. You certainly know how to write a great poem.
Well done.
