This is a very well written bucket list poem you have penned. I think your wises on there are very good. I would like that for the USA again too! Best wishes in the contest. Blessings, Teri

Your poem made me smile. I like that your emphasis is on seeing the milestones of those you love as opposed to accomplishing a random list of activities (or what you called whimsy; love the word choice) that at the end of life we can say, "I did that." Your rhythm and rhyme are well executed, but I would consider breaking it into two stanzas. It will help distinguish the ideas what we consider bucket list items from the actual desires of your heart.

I, too, hope to see our country in a better place...sooner rather than later.

I'm glad it made you smile. Your saying that, made ME smile.
I could break it up after "somehow" but I have to tell you that to live to see those things - my desires of the heart - IS my bucket list - my goal - my hoped for.
I can see your point, however, and I thank you for your suggestion and your kind words.

It really is gratifying to see someone's bucket list contain wishes for others rather than self.
I love this truly unselfish wish list.
A great poem with very good rhyme. But with an even better message

Some simple wishes that mean alot to you. I believe America will be great again soon. The vets that apologized for their Fathers to the Indians are the kind of steps needed to make America great again.People just seem so aggressive these days, about everything. I guess technology has a hand in that. Good entry, judester

As a writer, I think it's normal to want to see success in what you have written, measured by publication and a movie. Nice! I like how you transition to your long-term goals of what you value more: your family and your values passed down to them.

I like your rhythm throughout.

Your last line, seeming to bring in Trump, seemed out of place. It's not that I'm against living in a great nation, but it isn't detail specific like the rest of your goals. It's too broad. What does a great nation look like to you? That seems like another whole poem to write about, perhaps with ways to get to the great nation you hope for.

that was a good critique - saying what you really thought, and in a very nice way. I'm sorry you didn't think the last part was detailed enough. I knew it would be a touchy subject, but it is true - what I hope to see.

Poem depicts that although you have some dreams as a writer the reality of life convinces you what is more important.

Never give up on your dreams though. Some times even they do come true.

Should make an interesting entry into this contest.

thank you. I did just have my first book signing for my first book, The Worst Five Months Ever, and it was wonderful. Friends came out in the cold and rain, bless 'em.
"Interesting entry" - a phrase probably meaning controversial? anyway I believe you are a true Southern gentleman.Thank you for the 5.

A very well-written bucket list poem. The wish list is an honest list that everyone should ask for. To see our children happy is one, the other to have a country that is great and safe for the future.

Good poem, nice take and well written. I do not know about the message of America being or becoming great again, but that of course reflects my political view on world affairs as me and as a European living in South Africa. Just being honest and for me the message is often important to me, whether that is biased or not...But well done and thank you for sharing, Kai

thank you for the 5. I am curious and hope you don't mind my asking - if you are a European living in South Africa, not an American, what is it about wanting your country to be strong and respected again and not dictated to by the government, that you disagree with? (sorry to end sentence with a prep) I knew the last line would provoke some Americans who like the status quo, but it is truly what I hope to see.

Hi there. I was born in Germany and lived there for 30 years and then worked close yo 20 years in the Uk. Also one year as a student in Los Gatos, California. (Now in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am becoming more and more of a socialist. I simply do not believe in the justice of a capitalist society any more ( the American philosopher John Rawls posits a model of justice in 'Justice' posits a better model which comes closest to being in the Scandinavian countries). Not an anarchist, because some government is necessary, but I dislike hegemony and colonialism, wars for oil and money. Okay, just a nutshell. Many wishes and blessings, Kai

Kai, what a nice, long interesting response. Thank you.
It saddens me that you are leaning toward socialism. We have too much gov't control in our country now - Americans are not used to it and don't like it and it is going to change with our new president. I think personal freedom is the most important thing on earth and I would not choose to live without it. Nobody likes or wants war, but a strong country that can defend its people and be of use to its allies is vital. Also one that its people and allies can trust. We do not have that now, Mr. Obama is weak and I have never heard him say that he loves this country. I do not believe that he does. I am proud to be an American and would not live anywhere else.
Did you ever visit Texas? (smile) It is a great big friendly state.
reply by Kai Michael Neumann on 09-Dec-2016
Hey, thank you. I honestly respect your stance towards politics. We are in a different paradigm, but in respect of the USA, you are living there and I am not. Therefore you have first hand information, which I have not. Yes I was in Texas, when I was 15. El Paso and those white sands dunes. And not only then, there is a lot that I like about your country. As am exchange student to California, I was made very welcome to start with. And I like the grit and determination, which a lot of Americans have. And in regards of politics, I am actually quite open to wait and see what the Trump presidency will bring. If he had said for example (which he did not), that he wanted to close Guantanamo Bay, he might be much more likely to actually do it. So let us watch this space. Great to talk to you and many wishes, Kai

right now he is busy appointing cabinet members - trying to put the most knowledgeable in each field, he is a whirlwind - doesn't seem to tire.
Anyway I enjoyed talking to you, too and appreciate your understanding.
    Best wishes to you,
