An irregular ode has lines of various lengths, I can see you've got that part down. Aside from the poem, the story is wonderful to share about such a great friend. Dusty

I enjoyed your post for the Potlatch, Kim. It's wonderful to be able to keep in touch with childhood friends. Most often after a while we lose touch. You two have keep it going. Nice poem and photo of you and Carol. I've not written an ode as yet, but am intrigued by those I have read for the Potlatch challenge. Marilyn

    Hi Marilyn:

I hadn't realized that the Irregular Ode was actually a thing until we did them in potlatch. The funny thing is that I had read the more famous ones, just didn't put it together that they didn't follow the set patterns of your standard ode. They are a lot of fun, try it, I think you'll like it! I feel so blessed that Carol and I have stayed close for all these years. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

Yes, you are fortunate to have school friends. I have long-term friends but not from school. We are all friends from when we were all young married couples. I'm grateful for that. Marilyn

Six stars for this write, Kim, as it really touched my heart. I actually got teary-eyed reading it. There is nothing better than having friends, and having a very close best friend throughout your life is a wonderful thing. Even though you now live far apart, you are still able to keep in touch.

Your poem touched me deeply as it brought to mind a friendship that I had for over 40 years with one of my girl friends. She passed away six years ago. I often think about the fun time we spent together through our teens, working together and going for lunches, dating, marrying our boyfriends, raising a family ... all the while still seeing one another throughout the years despite moving far away as well. We used to take family vacations together too. One thing that I find very nice now is that her son and my eldest son still keep in touch and visit each other (one is in Toronto and the other is in Calgary). They have formed life long friendships as their mothers did. Ok, enough about me.

I love the nostalgic quality of your write. By talking about the many things that you and Carol did together, the reader immediately gets a good look at the close bond that you two forged. She means a lot to you, and you to her. That is so very evident from this well written poem. "I close my eyes then you aren't as far as it all seems" is the line that brought my tears. "We've shared love, and loss and life" ... that pretty much says it all! :)

Great job on your Irregular Ode for the Potlatch, Kim!

Connie

    Hi Connie!

I love this review, so very much! (I think I found a few of those tears just reading your review!) Thank you for all of the candor and enthusiasm. I posted it on Carol's FB for her birthday and she responded that I made her cry, too. We all seem to have something in common lol So many memories. I appreciate you taking the time to read and leave such beautiful comments.

A lovely tribute to a sorely missed friend. A great birthday present and served the mission of the potlatch too. A good use of the postage stamp theme for a real life story.

Great homage to the true value and power of the lowly
postage stamp - hard to believe these days that this
was the only economical means we had of "keeping
up on each other"! Before cell phones long distance
rates where prohibitive for frequency and there was
no such thing as the internet -

And picking just the right stationary was serious
business!!!!!

. . .and, oh, the depths of friendship we plumbed
by sharing our hearts and minds through letters :-)

Nicely done Kim :-)

I so enjoyed your twist. Connecting with an old friend the old fashioned way through a letter. The anticipation of waiting for the mail isn't the same as it used to be. so happy you wrote this.

    Hi Jusylee,

The internet is great, but to be tangible, a box or letter in the mail is the connection you can feel. Thanks for the excellent review.

A very good irregular ode and a nice tribute at the same time to a dear friend of your past and one that still stays in your heart and memories.
Very well done

A very well-written irregular ode. The best way to keep in contact with loved ones far away, is through the old fashioned letter and postage system.

    Hi Sandra,

It isn't as immediate as email, but for the tangible, touching the letters or a box of memories can't be beat! Thanks for taking the time to read and review.

This is a beautiful piece of writing and I am going to take your word for it since it is too long for me to check that everything is rhymed. I cannot colour-code you have exhausted this computer's palette.

The only question I would as or rather, comment I would make is to say that I think we we told to write an irregular ode to a poatage stamp. I think this is more to Carol (as entitled) than it is to the stamp dragged in at the end in order to get it where it has to go.

You might of course argue that without the stamp it is nothing because it could not reach its destination.

    Hi Pantygynt:

You know I have to dare to go out on my own tangent lol I took Mikey's words at face value:

    Today's topic:

Write an irregular ode about a: POSTAGE STAMP

You may interpret this anyway you wish and be as creative as you wish, but it must involve a postage stamp in some way. :))

My postage stamp was there in the middle and the end, and played a pivotal role :) AND I got to write Carol's birthday poem, too! :) I promise, all of the rhymes are there!

    Thanks for the grand review.
