It is hard to picture how a song is to be sung when only the lyrics are present. There was however a central theme that carried this piece along. Sounds kind of Southern U.S. to me. Leonard Skynnard etc. Good, but familiar story.

Brett Matthew West,

Nice song. Your arrangement here is very creative. Well chosen words are expressive. The theme is strong. Your feelings are expressed well. Your arrangement looks very nice. The flow is smooth.

There was no SPAG. No room for improvement.

Your feelings are very understandable and expressed through the poem.

I look forward to seeing you again.

Love you,

Oatmeal

Although I am not a country music fan..(except for the very old music) this touched my heart. It could have been written about my son...Police from four counties hunted him down and he just walked into town and surrendered...Mama...I just wanted to sleep under the stars one more night. It broke my heart...He did not kill anyone, but he sits in Algoa Prison and has been there seven years..
What happens to those beautiful innocent children? So you get my six stars for understanding.

This expresses the sentiment well, but it's quite sad. Song lyrics are meant to make an emotional impact. You were successful in that.

A beautiful poem in song lyrics and repeating verses. I loved the style you chose and the words told your story through verse of song. Very well done.

this is a fine example of a fresh moral story dear brett! indeed, if we think taking the short cut it usually ends up quite a long run. your father was right and i wish i had listened to my parents too.
thank you for sharing!
blessings!

Your tag line was excellent, Brett, and your lament in lyrics pretty much sums it all up in a nice, tidy nutshell.
Yes, we can learn from our mistakes.
That much is true.
What we cannot do is go back in time to undo all the damage we may have done to ourselves and to others.
Well done.

Your review indicates I accomplished getting the meaning of this song across in the manner in which I intended to.

That was indeed the lesson learned: when a person does not listen to the voice of experience and reason most of the time they live to regret their decisions and their actions.

I really like this, reminds me of a Johnny Cash type song. I especially like...'and in daddy's tears I'll drown'...that is so pretty. Blessings...

There is a good message in your song lyrics. Good advice father
to son or for anybody. Sometimes it's hard to be high minded when
everyone else isn't, but that's the best way to go. Marilyn
