This must have been a hard piece to create. On the one
hand you wanted to maintain the integrity of verse and
pace and on the other hand you wanted to maintain the
integrity of the subject. You did an excellent job of both.

    Hi Bill,

It is sometimes difficult to create with tears in your eyes and a heaviness on your soul, and yet, those pieces somehow create themselves. Thank you for your excellent observations. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

A fine and worthy tribute to the fallen officer as well as the town that rallied around him. So crazy the things people due with no regard for human life. What a loss. Well penned with great description and wording.

The art work is great
for these words written
in every way.
How heart breaking
it is to see this happening
One day he is alive
the next day dead
to protect life in everyway.

It's SO sad, isn't it, when someone who does nothing but good is senselessly killed in the line of duty.

Your poem is touching, Kim! Your write reiterates the fact that the "men in blue" really do put themselves in harm's way in order to serve and protect the rest of us. "There are no words" ... that actually speaks volumes. How does one come to terms with such a horrible thing?

Good luck in the contest, Kim!

They truly ought to hand that criminal. It is just so very horrible. Great writing. I wish I had six left to give you. I just lost my husband and daughter. I understand.

Hi Dovey, What a lovely well written poem to celebrate the life of this police officer. You have captured his essence in this poem and like you I cannot fathom out what is happening in our world ( I have just posted my view in a poem 'I wonder why I care but yet I do') so I think we are thinking on similar lines with out writing. Your poem will relect many peoples feeling about this tragedy in Alaska. Thanks for sharing Cheers Christine

    Hi Chrissy,

Thank you for taking the time to read and review. I am honored by the rating you have selected, and so is Officer Brandt. These are twisted times we live in, for sure, I only hope people wake up to reality sooner than later. How much more can our society truly bear? I appreciate all of your comments and will check out the poem you mentioned.

A very sad commentary of the dangers our police officers face every day. Hillary and her like show no respect to law enforcement It's no wonder so many are murdered.

I wish I had a six for you. This is heart-wrenching. No officers should live with the fear and contempt these brave people must face daily. What has gone wrong with the world? No comfort to the family, but God will turn all to the good. So very sorry, blessings....

This is a beautiful tribute to this Police officer slain while doing his duty. Too much violence and hate in all of our communities. Lovely words, lovely poem, Kim.

This was a tragic incident. I remember reading about him being shot on CNN and how he had predicted it. He died after surgery to fix and remove shrapnel from his eye after that loser shot him. Some people really don't understand how our lives would be without these brave men and women holding the line against chaos and evil.

Well written

    Hi Lance,

Our entire community is in shock. Thank you for taking the time to read and review. I hadn't even realized that CNN had carried his story. Often, things in Alaska go unnoticed by the national media. Truly, it is a sad day here. The shooter wrote a letter to Sgt. Brandt that was published in our local paper after he was caught. In the letter he told him that he should choose a safer profession and spend all the time he could with his family. We all thought he'd recover. It is such a tragedy that he succumbed to complications during the surgery to save his eyesight. Thank you for your kind thoughts.
