I'm glad you were able to experience going back to your old house, at least the speaker does. I can relate because I too once visited my old home.
I like how the memories come flooding back.
A good reflection piece.
Keep it up!

A fine and original take on the picture with hope of starting anew. Nostalgic and sweet memories of family inspired by the old abode.

Lovely and emotional poem to accompany the photograph, Sandra. It's very moving, and I'm sure many readers can relate to seeing their childhood homes. Last year, my sister and I visited all the house apartments and one home we lived in before moving to a new state. It was very emotional and memories flooded our minds and hearts. Well done!
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

This one came about because last week I went to a wedding in the village I lived my childhood in. I took my husband to see the house I was born in and grew up in, and it's still as nice as it was back then, a loooong time ago! It belonged to my grandparents first, then my parents. I would have liked to buy it, but I'm too old to go moving around now, and all my family, my sons and grandchildren are with me in the South of England. Where I was born is on the East coast, North of London, a long way away from me now. At least, too far for them to just pop around for a cuppa! I'm glad you liked my poem, Karyn, going back can be quite an emotional trip. :) Sandra xxx

A very well-written poem taking down memory lane. It I'd hard to see oir childhood home that often ended up this way. But the memories will always remain.

-You chose the picture? A good one to write about,
and you did a good job.
-Very good meter, rhyme, imagery, and story.
-You take the reader back to a time when this house
was a home and full of love, as opposed to
its sad and forlorn condition now.
-Now, it is time to keep the memories in tact and hope that
a new family will love and cherish this house once it becomes a home.
-Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much, Pam. I've been away all week, I went to my niece's wedding and only came back today, and then we stayed on for the week, cam home today. I hadn't seen some of my relations for years! While we were there, we went and had a look at the house I was born in, I wanted to show my husband. It's still there and still looks lovely. So many memories, it was so nice. I was actually born in the house, (Not the one I chose for this challenge) it was my grandparents, and I had so many happy times there. They have long gone now, and my parents, so it was sad but lovely. I'm really pleased you liked my poem, it wasn't what I'd intended to write when I chose it, but it seemed so natural after my visit. Now to concentrate on my story. Big hugs, Sandra xxx

You are very welcome, Sandra. Thanks for sharing about the wedding. I'm glad it was nice and many family members were there. I enjoyed learning about your parents' house, and am glad you were still able to see it. It was originally your grandparents or was that another house?
You did a nice job with the poem.

This house seems to have had many good memories for the speaker of the poem. Such a happy place once to have fallen to such sad disrepair. It would sell much better if the weeds were picked and the tree taken care of. But it does sound lonely for new life inside.

Keep writing

Thank you so much for the lovely review. I hadn't intended that to be the poem for the picture this challenge, but I'd just visited the house where I was born, and the words just came. My old home is still standing, and a nice family live there. I'm so pleased you liked my poem. :) Sandra xx

A very good take on the house, thinking of those great memories of growing up there. Nicely done, great rhyming, has a wonderful meter, reads and flows great. Thanks for the share and have a great day.

Yes, there are memories and other things locked up in old buildings. You can sometimes feel them and they should be obeyed. As I found out.

Your nostalgic and nicely written poem is showing a house that is benign and homely. The reader feels a certain sympathy towards the house. Almost as if it needs the company of an active family. And a certain despair, the despair of abandonment.

Good work Sandra...

I often wonder what life was like when these old houses were lived in and loved. Most can probably tell a nice story. Thank you for this lovely review, my friend, I'm glad you liked my interpretation of the picture. :) Sandra xxx
