Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This chapter pulls in new elements of Jewish culture. Unusual in Western novels, this makes the typical settler story more interesting.
Jess' understanding of his beloved is introduced and at times there is a humor to what could be a dry subject.
I like this

There were quite a few Jews in the old west but it is true that they were not represented in many western novels. I suppose they, like many others, headed west to avoid intolerance. I do try to use humor when I can. Thank you for reading.

D.,

This was a fine chapter. The time of Helga's pregnancy is passing quickly so I know she will soon be having that baby and will need some help. Can't wait to see what y'all find! *smile*

Some notes:

1.) a term I use loosely but who am I to talk? They mostly eyed Abe and playfully pulled at the purple threads that hung loosely from the edges
--> notice that you used 'loosely' two times very close together

2.) made up her mind about something, neither Helln or high water would change
--> did you mean to say 'Helln'?

Thanks!

No, I didn't mean Helln. It was supposed to be Hell nor high water. The 'n' got lost I guess. I don't know why my spelling program didn't catch it for me. Thank you for pointing it out. I didn't notice I'd used loosely twice so close together. I don't like to do that. I'll look into it. I appreciate the feedback.

They tried to help, but it's probably better if Helga finds someone. Are there any native American tribes in the area? Their women would be able to help.
neither Hell (n)or high water
I especially liked Jess imitating Abe with the hands in the air and babbling. Their camaraderie continues to develop.
This was an enjoyable chapter in your story.

Thank you for pointing out my mistake. Interestingly enough, I was thinking about a native American as a good fit for someone to help out. I don't know if this is great minds thinking alike or if you should be concerned that you are thinking like me. I appreciate the support.

I definitely vote for the ' Great minds think alike' option!

    I'll go with that then.

A good advance on the previous chapter. They wanted to get some help for Helga, but the girl Beatrice, wanted to burn some scrolls to satart a fire, a fire, they turn out to be the Torah, the Jewish Old Testament, they got rid of her. Well done, interesting episode, well done, blessings, Roy

Continuing to love the Jess POV. He manifests as a simple caring man. I like the growing camaraderie between Abe and Jess. Helga is emerging as a very strong minded young lady. The 'menagerie of morons' is a great phrase but sounds a little beyond Jess as we have come to know him. Good write, great read. Cheers - DJ

Well, I couldn't use my other phrase for such an occurrence, which would be "idiots in action". Maybe Jess is learning. At least his bad luck manifests in less drastic problems for now. Thank you for reading and for your support.

A very good addition to your book. An interesting read. Well written with no spags, Something I still have a lot of trouble with.

Well, he's having a time finding a good woman to help with Helga's delivery. It sounds as if Helga will find a woman herself and doesn't want the men bringing a strange woman into her house without her first approving.

I can't really blame her. What do they know anyway? She would really need someone she can be comfortable with and knows what she is doing. But where to find that where they are? That will be the problem
