What a ride! I love reading your stories...the True Life (Mis)Adventures of Mary. The beauty of your writing is that I feel as if we are sitting together and you are talking directly to me. You know how to keep your readers engaged because you can tell a story so well.
Suggestions:
'...drive, depend(e)nt on weather...'
'...usually (lie) down and sleep...'
commit(t)ed
"We rolled along..." (delete 'as')
Thanks for the entertaining read!

Heidi, thank you so much for your terrific review. I loved reading it, and that is a great title suggestion... :) I have also made the corrections, so that you for the catches. And as to that fabulous SIX, a most gracious thank you. I am glad you enjoyed the story. I get periodic updates on Lady Bird still, now just Lady, and the family she loves. She was so deserving of a happy ending, as are most every dog and cat. Thank you and have a wonderful windup to the week!

Great. Now I want - no, that word won't do - NEED a Rolo treat...

You're at it again. You had me so sad about Lady Bird, terrified on that drive, but all in all, I was laughing. I won't even bother to point out the incomplete sentences in the diary entries - they're allowed. (But if they weren't intentional, go looking for them, yes?)

What a wonderful story. I love happy endings, especially happy endings like this one - nobody hurt in a potentially life-threatening situation and big puppy with new home.

One other point I should mention - your stories are so entertaining, I'm finished reading before I want to be!

Haha, I wasn't probing your well-being for a review, but thank you for being #15 :)

I'm glad you enjoyed. I'm in touch from time to time with Lady's mommy from time to time, and older and fatter, she is quite content these days. :)

Yes, the final paragraph bears a different font, denoting my harried Facebook post the following morning.
Thank you for the high compliment, and the fabulous SIX 😁XO

I know you weren't. It was my intention to do some reviewing, dear one - no worries. My first stop is most often something to start me off with a smile (unless I have been super-negligent of someone), and you never disappoint. I'm smiling still.

Fantastic story of a rescue of Lady Bird, avoiding an accident, and some great bonding time between mother and daughter! And who doesn't love Rolos? As an animal lover, I really enjoyed the story.

Thank you so much, MelB, for your RR&R and that fabulous SIX!

It was quite a memorable trip in more than a few ways, and one that will stay with me for a very long time. Lady bird is still doing great with her forever family ;)

This is a solid ten but have a six.
I laughed at the prarie dogs and the tumbleweeds and the dog ears flapping.
I had a basset hound and I could imagine everything you wrote about and laughed that much more.
This is excellent

Thank God your daughter had the presence of mind to do that. I passed through the Springs last month on my way home from vacation. My daughter lives in Denver. Another amazing story. So when are you going to compile these into a book so I can buy it? Thanks again for the laughs. Mary

Hi Mary, Yes me too...I still shudder when I think of how close we came to disaster. My friend lives right on the main drag, Nevada Street...you likely passed right by her beautiful 1865 Victorian beauty! I am working on the stories and even purchased Create Space, so I just have to organize them, write more and come up with a title...taking all suggestions...I'm thinking something like Mary's Wonderland, playing off my very first FanStory story... That was a high honor to think someone would actually pay to read, so thank you for that...I will keep you posted!!

This is hilarious. I especially enjoyed: "remaining calm, cool and not shitting my pants." I probably wouldn't have done that well. I would have been reduced to a screaming idiot with messy pants. This is a fun story.

Hi Judy, thank you so very much for your beautiful review and the fabulous SIX assignment! I loved it. I appreciate you stopping by and committing to a review...a rate commodity for prose I'm finding :) Thank you ever so much! Have a great week :)

For this, I am cozying up to my computer, just having poured a nice icy blue raspberry vodka in a Looney Tunes jelly glass. (Don't even judge me. Since Friday my circadian rhythm has been so topsy turvy I just woke up from a three hour nap that constitutes my night of sleep, but no, that doesn't make it morning for me. By my very complicated, scientific calculator-required extrapolations, I've deduced it's approximately 9 pm and everyone knows the use of Looney Tunes glasses after 7pm is acceptable.)

I'm doing something different. I am going to go through the story word by word, as you follow along. (Is there a word limit on reviews?)

Okay, uh-huh, mmmmm? Yep, okay. (Oh yes, Colorado reminds me. I must write the story of my ill-fated wedding from September of 13 when the historic floods destroyed an entire family...keep on track, now.)
chick/hen road trip (love it) not-forever families (good one)
Wait. Does your e-mail actually SAY "You've got fooooooking mail?" I want the app.
a case for the three strikes and you're nuked law (dang, is that what they do these days? )

(Mary...Mary. Listen to me, my dear. This sentence right here, the one below, is your clue to run the other way. I am really feeling limited in my ability to highlight, underline, bold and use enormous fonts. Just pretend I used all those in the sentence below.)

"Lady was a bird dog with an overactive nose constantly seeking excitement and possessing a heart that demanded adventure. Small fenced yards and crates were proving impossible at keeping her contained." (Impossible to keep her contained)

The animal rescue adrenaline gene....(LOL! I can just see you in those few frantic moments, fingers flying as e-mails are sent, Siri making phone calls for you--your fate sewn up in like 30 seconds flat. I have the same gene, but it's all encompassing: rescue anybody or anything in trouble+doing no matter what it entails+ not putting a sane thought into it=I swear I'll never do THAT again)
At the first whiff of "Where's the Pork," (LOL)
Lady Bird was an enthusiastic foodie without boundaries for personal space (14 hours? ROFL!)

as we annihilated tumbleweed families and unsuspecting prairie dogs that popped out of their holes to see what all the exitement was about. (Laughing our loud for a several seconds at least! Is there a missing c here? Or did I lose it?)

we did what we always do in times of extreme stress. We began laughing--hysterically. (Yep. neither of our apples have fallen very far from the tree.)

We wondered if anyone in the line of cars got our epic Chick-Hen-Bird Dog shit show on video, and made a mental note to check YouTube at some point. (If you ever do find that video, I'd love to see the dog, maintaining perfect balance, her long ears swaying back and forth across your face. I hope they used the zoom lens.)
Lady Bird was lovin' the extra excitement and thought we were happenin' peeps. (very smart dog)

I'm glad Lady Bird got a good home, but the fenced-in acreage part sounds somewhat boring for a duchess of her stature. I'm sure she looks back on your trip with fondness and a prolonged wistfulness at the memory of those sausage patties grilling at Mickie D's.

Great story. Mary!

Kelly

Oh my goodness, Kelly. I've read this over and over, and chucked harder with each one. First off, you had me at your Looney Tunes jelly glass...m'wa judge as I drink iced tea from a recycled Prego Spaghetti jar, while blowing my nose with tp instead of Kleenex??? Never! I know what a circadian rhythm is, but had to Google extrapolations... :) I can't wait to read your wedding story...And it wasn't the raspberry vodka, I WAS missing a 'c'. Good thing FanStory doesn't carry the spelling bee loser pressure and shame :)

I'm still in touch with LadyBird's, (now just Lady) family and they love her so much. It was a good thing.

I seriously live for reviews. You could enter them as prose. :) Thank you for the delicious SIX, it is almost as good as what you were drinking when you wrote this one!!!! XO

LOL! I love to make you laugh! The thing is, it's all true. I've been drinking out of those Looney Tunes glasses for probably 30 years and I just looked at it and realized it was a jelly glass. I have four of them in my cupboard. They have been three since my kids were little. If somebody told me right now they would give me a million dollars if I could name one cartoon character on any of the glasses, it would be a crapshoot. I would be thinking Bullwinkle....Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles....uh, the Beep Beep guy..Roadrunner!

I meant to say Cicadian rhythm, like as in cicadas. Have you ever seen one of them? When I first moved to TN in 1997 I was lucky enough to have perfect timing for the 17 year cicada plague. They are like really loud locusts, but probably bigger. I spent the summer screaming and galloping in circles as I tried to dislodge them from my hair. So I thought, when it was over, at least that's over for 17 years. Then I learned there wasn't only a 17 year cicada blitz, there were the ten year, seven year and five year cicada invasions. I'm not kidding, google it.

Hahaha, yes, I know them well. We somewhere in a forgotten box in a forgotten closet have A 6 hour VCRTAPE of filming them with our kids when they were little. Hilarious! I especially like the shell casing, for lack of a better word, left behind on the trees. Can you imagine being buried alive for 17 years, then finally get out and die two fooooooking days later!!!!

    Oye!
reply by Kelly2 on 05-Oct-2016
I suppose if that were my life, I would get out and create as much mayhem and calamity as I could, too. :)

You certainly have an entertaining writing bone in those hands of yours. LOL

for the three strikes and your nuked law. - you're.

won't mind finding white dog hair all over his upholstery? - need closing speech marks here.

Kate ate her McNothin'outside the cab of the truck - need a space before outside.

If you aren't rescuing Facebook friends, you're rescuing doomed animals that deserve a--well in Lady's case--a fourth chance.
Good for you!!
I'm glad your daughter was fast-thinking.

Good morning, Ellen, and thank you for your RR&R, which is most appreciated! Her quick reactions no doubt saved us that day, that is for sure. Lady Bird is doing great and has the life of Riley with her family who love her. Happy endings all around! Have a great week!
