OMG, that ending!!! This was quite a fun read. A one star review--even FanStory woukd have given poor Jack at least a four!

Great cartoon art to accompany this hilarity, Phyllis!

This was good! I liked the way you followed through Jack's life, and then put the surprise twist at the end. Butcher, indeed! Cute story with a funny ending.

This is so funny. When I was a very young child I was determined to learn to talk to animals. Needless to say, I was unsuccessful. I learned to read their body language but not what they said. How funny, one bad review and he decides to become a butcher. Quite the switch. I got a real kick out of this one. It brought back some fond memories for me too.

Sad that another possible great author was discouraged by a harsh reviewer. lol. I personally believe animals think and reason far above what humans know. Jack should have responded that any animal locked up, including man, has little reason the think about more than survival. Nice short story for a Sunday afternoon read.

Thanks, Carolyn. It was just meant to be funny. I'm sure animals are pretty smart... compared to mankind! LOL! :)

Right. They don't start wars. They fight it out one on one and go on their way. I'd love to see Obama take on Putin. Putin would wipe the floor with him. LOL!

Wait. . .what???? He became a butcher!?!?!?!?!
(I had to quickly scroll up and see what category of fiction this was (LOL)

Here, I was trying to figure out if you were satirizing vanity writers
or the publishing industry ;-)

Well done Phyllis - you evoked both the humor of absurdity and life's
inexplicable karma. In other words, you kept my attention and engaged
my fascination :-)

Thanks so very much, LOrraine. Really appreciate the six stars. Glad you saw the humor in it. A lot of readers didn't know what to make of it. LOL! :)

Just a few punctuation errors. Watch those commas. How many times do I have to remind about the theirs/they're is rule? Buy a speller checker. Wait a minute... I'm reading my story. You're story is pretty good.

Certainly a little different from the norm, but an enjoyable read. Perhaps with the passage of time science will make even more strides than butcher Jack. I read we are making some progress in that area. They definitely communicate well with one another!

Thanks!

Thanks, Ray. It was supposed to be funny. Didn't do it for you, eh? :)

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't say so. It certainly was most humorous. I just pondered the next step!

    Thanks!

Thanks, Ray. Since then I've had a number of readers find the humor. I guess I was just wondering if I had written it correctly. LOL!

The greatest part of life is watching people, but not having to listen to them of course. We never know what anyone is thinking. I use to think most were simple and easily figured out, but now days, they don't even know what they think themselves from one day to the next. Yes, I guess I'm getting old. Great job. :-)

Thanks for reading, RIc. It was supposed to be funny. So far only three people "got it." Wonder why? :)
reply by Ric Myworld on 11-Sep-2016
It was definitely funny! I can't answer why only three people got it. I'm amazed sometimes at these people's reactions. I mean, I posted a, surely photo shopped, picture of the Pope glancing at a woman's breast and got bashed, with even one-star reviews. It's a joke folks, I didn't take the damn picture. Thanks for another of your fun reads. :-)

I recall that one. Crazy picture, but we have a lot of very religious folks here. :)

I did enjoy reading this short story. I know that dogs have a vocabulary. Our dogs understand certain commands.

Thank you, Elaine. Yes, they understand, but they cannot tell us what they're thinking. :)

What a delightful story with a great twist at the end. It addressed the dreams we have as children which inspire us to become what we become. And although we often aspire to follow our dreams they truly lead us no where so we change directions but we learn from those dreams and still have our memories. Great job, thank youl

Thanks for reading, Ary. I had a lot of dreams. Writing was never one of them. LOL!

You are so welcome Phyllis, same for me, I like to think of what I have done as completions on my bucket list a little earlier than necessary lol.
