You certainly established the mood well for this Vilanelle with MoonWillow's artwork. I admired your rhymes and refrain plus it modification. Your description is vivid and your metaphors like "death mask," "rotting cheese" and "parasite" are very effective, along with your personification of the "night". Well done! -Joan

Thanks, Joan. Glad you enjoyed it. There is a strong field of entrants in this contest of Steve's. I shall enjoy reading the rest of them.

This is an outstanding Villanelle that harkens to the dark side of the macabre. The imagery of death and decay is outstanding. The flow and transitions are remarkably creative as they paint the image of an evil moon. Very compelling,

Hi Tony. Just been off on vacation p, and dealing with some family business. Setting up a website with my publisher too. So, just busy.

Man, you always show us how to do things right. A fine example of a Villanelle - and a superbly creepy look at the moon through the eyes of a lunatic. Loved how you worked in the haunting repeating lines to add intensity into the ramblings of the person tortured by the sight of the moon.
You've outdone yourself, Tony.

Wow this is a great Villanelle Tony, and such a different way to think about the moon - far from a romantic moon this one, I love it.Good luck in the contest, this is great.
cheers.

I don't know where to begin. It's simply beautiful. Excellent word choices and vivid often creepy imagery throughout. Being a fantasy writer, I gobble this up. Yum!
Take care,
Russell

I think this is one of the hardest poems. To write and to read. It can easily become a chore on both ends. Yours is great. You have either natural skill or you really worked to make this poem. Either way is a talent. BTW, I also like that you had a glossary, just to confirm that I truly knew what a wight was. Thanks!

What a spectacularly eerie portrait of the moon! Each line reiterates the ominous nature of "this fetid pool of light" and all it illuminates. Stanzas two and four are especially effective; they create a haunting vision. You really know how to create an image. Great use of villanelle form; this is tight and stylistically sound. Your iambic pentameter scans perfectly.

Hmm, this is well crafted. It does seem like an easy post or form to master but you did it well and the reader understands. The glossary helped. I was thinking what is a wight?
Good work.

Hi there. O gosh, I shouldn't even be reviewing this as I haven't the faintest idea what a villanelle is, but I'm doing it anyway as I find it is a lovely poem that I really enjoyed to read. All the best. Ulla:))
