This is very good and many of us have dogs that walk us..ha..
Mine would have none of being pulled on a leash but ran out ahead to protect me. He was about 12 inches long.
Funny poem..very visual.

Yes, Nika2016, our dogs will run ahead to protect us and sniff out the scenery. I am thrilled that my poem resonated with many dog owners and that my poem placed second in the contest. Thank you for your review.

I think many dog-owners will recognise and sympathise with this situation.

The humour arising from the role-reversal scenario is appropriate for the senryu, and your words conjure up a vivid image, which adds to the scene setting of the first line.

Good luck.

Steve

Hello Anonymous;
-we, having two dogs of our own, can completely relate to your writing and is mostly talked about with our neighbors when we say that the dogs took us for a walk and not the other way around. I find this very humorous and quite funny and very apropos to a Senryu's meaning.
-Good luck in the contest and take care and have a good one.

Ha, ha. This meets the contest's remit and brought a smile to my face. As a frequent dog walker of numerous neighbours dogs, how I can relate to the sentiment expressed.

As a Senryu, it's nicely balanced. Good luck with the competition.

Aww, a Chihuahua poet. Now there's a first. However I do understand about the dog taking charge of the walk. My old Boston Terrier was good at it, himself. It's amazing how a dog can get us out of the house and about meeting others. Guess that's why they are "man's best friend".

Take care,
Rhonda

Oh, thank you, Rhonda, for your review. I will share your praise to Mina being a Chihuahua poet. When I heard the good news that our poem placed second in the contest, I fed her a treat. Thanks.

Your Senryu, "nose sniffing autumn," fits the constraints of this form of poetry in an excellent fashion. Good luck in the writing prompt contest.

Senryu very much for the funny poem. A friend of mine wrote a poem he let (insisted) I read it. he said, "What do you think? It's senryu."

I said, "No it isn't."

He said, "Yes it is. A guy in a bar told me."

How cute!!! This is a very clever and creative poem that is perfect for the Senryu contest. I've had a few dogs lead me around town too. Thanks for making me laugh.

I love this!
As a dog lover and owner I can relate totally. I don't consider that being taken for walks by my pooch is the privilege of the senior generation, my dog decides the route and the speed no matter who is on the end of the leash!

Great phrasing and fun subject. I really enjoyed it, good luck : )

A fun 'role reversal' as you say, and your words create imagery of the old fella being dragged along behind.

I'm not sure I would feel grateful, though I know I SHOULD. ;-)

Cheers, Ray.
