It must be a hell of a life trying to meet all those deadlines with seemingly the whole world against you. I used to drive big artics in connection with my own business and a day or two here and there could be fun but not all day every day. This poem hits the mark well.

I like this! You describe the trucker's life vividly and the rhythm and rhyme of the poem seem to send it "rockin along" down the highway. Nice work.

A very cute poem about the truckers. I agree, we do need trucks. They are what keeps our economy moving. Only a trucker would desire so much alone time. I liked your poem.

Greta tribute to those who supply most of our everyday needs. Made my back and butt hurt thinking about fourteen hours on the road. I love the vivid imagery and the rhyme. I love the fact that you chose not to use artwork as it definitely was not needed. Best wishes.

Johnny Cash should have sung this...It sounds like song lyrics...
The poem tells a great little story and its true that without truckers commerce would die..
so good work
keep truckin'

Johnny Cash sang 'Sunday Morning Coming Down' the great Kristofferson song. And originally this started out as a parody of that song. Initially the first line was: 'At a Monday morning truck stop, petrol fumes they filled the air.' Then I decided doing that to a Kristofferson song was sacrilegious. So I changed it.

Yes...I live in the country and a great cowboy singer sings that song so beautifully..

You've chosen a very original topic for this lovely poem. I like how you make us see the trucker's point of view and his love for what he does.
Your last sentence is great.

I love this one, Bob. It has a special place in my heart as my late husband was a truck driver and he loved it. So this was quite nostalgic for me as I lost him many years ago, when I was young. I'm certainly not young any more so this took away the years for a few minutes. See what magic you can work-haha.

I'm delighted it could bring back good memories. To me that's what writing should be all about. Thank you for such a rewarding comment

Truckers are heroes!!! One delay in the winter....stores run out of supplies....chaos! God bless our truckers daily!!! I always thought I'd like the life...truck stops, different faces, places. appeal to me....love this...blessings....

What you say is so true. Without them we would truly be lost. No freight would mean no food.

Should'a opted for a Peterbuilt, or FreightLiner Star Cruiser with a double sleeper and the Cummins Diesel.
Much more dependable and durable trucks than Kenworth ever thought'a bein'.

My roommate is an over-the-road truck driver. He's gone most weeks five out of six days.

Based on the things he's conveyed to me (he speaks of Lot Lizards a great deal too), I think you captured the essence of bein' "On The Road Again" quite nicely, Bob.

Good stuff, buddy.

I love receiving your replies. They are always much better than my poems.
I don't know about Lot Lizards but I sense they maybe rather 'friendly creatures!!!!'
Lastly, how could you be so cruel about Kenworths?
reply by Dean Kuch on 31-Aug-2016
I dunno, that's just what my roomy told me, and he's an over-the-road trucker.
I figured he'd know much better than me.
He drives a Volvo, however, go figure.
    You're more than welcome, Bob.
have a great labor day weekend.

This is an easy-to-read poem, with excellent rhyming, and makes a good case for truckers, about whom most non-trucker poets, I'll wager, seldom give a thought (because the topic doesn't come up very often :o)).

Thank you Ogden. What you say is absolutely correct. Most people don't realise that more often than not 'Freight is Food.'
