As an avid animal lover (birds, too) I have thought about birds on a wire before. I wondered if they ever get shocked or worse. You did a good job with this. Marilyn

Thanks, Marilyn! I do think NYC pigeons get crippled that way. I can't think of any other explanation of why I've seen so many with the same kind of injury. I have to add, though, that they are a very unpopular species here. I've been thinking about writing a poem about it.
Wishing you inspirations,
Don

This haiku looks at nature and sees the hazards nature's creatures face in a civilized setting. The pigeon is limping and it could be from contact with an electrical wire perch or it could be any one of the many hazards city birds face. The imagery is vivid and the emotion clear in this very brief poem.

Thanks for your comments, Mary! Did I say all that in 17 syllables? I think I'll vote for that poem! :)

Poor thing. Now you have me feeling sorry for a pigeon. That was a very powerful poem you put together there. It makes me want to take the poor thing to the vet.

:o)! That's funny!
You won't find much empathy for pigeons in NYC, Judy! The vet probably would raise the lid on his trash can, and drop your rescue bird in. In case you don't know - pigeons have very bad toilet habits, especially when they are overhead, carry disease, and are much, much too far from being an endangered species - but when I see a helpless crippled one, I feel kind of guilty that I'm not enough of a pigeonitarian to help it.
Hey, do you think maybe I should write another pigeon poem?
Thanks for reviewing my haiku.
