Great little story. The American Opolus sounds awful. Haha. Your dad was quite creative is seems. What better way to entertain and entice a kid, than with grape jelly and dog stories? Don't have to be a genius or a chef, just have to be one step ahead of a kid. That's a parent with some smarts. Lol.

Everything you're saying is right on, Janalma! I find it very rewarding to know someone grasps the essence of what I've written.
Thanks!

I enjoyed reading this story you have penned. It made me think of our two and a half year old grandson. He was at that point today where he didn't want to eat certain foods. Could have used your advice. Very good wording and imagery. Good luck. Teri

An involving children's story is always a good idea, but don't worry about the kid. He's learning what he likes and doesn't like, and becoming an individual.
Thank you for your much appreciated compliments, Teri!

I'm still trying to get into the idea of an omelet with a hole filled with grape jelly.
The stories your dad told sound funny and you were a good kid to allow him to keep his ruse going.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments, but I wasn't advanced enough to have been humoring him. It's only in retrospect that I understand why the routine continued as long as it did. I always loved to be with him.

Very sweet little story. You had a smart and caring Dad. I can see why you wanted to spend time with him. Some dads are so busy they forget to make time for kids, and that's a shame.

Thanks for the excellent review and your kind comments, Phyllis. (My dad died 41 years ago, and I still miss him.)
