Hi Bob, i do enjoy it. Simple and flowing it gave me no time to be bored. The repetitions are strong and therefore add to sustain the writing all the way down.
I am Benny Beeharry. Hope you still remember me

I've been out of circulation for around three months, firstly on our retirement holiday and then when I returned home my doctor ordered me to hospital for a quadruple bypass.
    Fortunately all is now well.
Thanks for reviewing and being so generous in your rating

This is quite lovely. So many beautiful memories, and of course, that's where he retreats to...back to the days when he was a kid. Glad you woke up with this!!!! Blessings....

A poem with a good subject is a well-written poem in my opinion. It comes from the heart and many of us are afraid to become victims of this scary condition.

I picked up a typo in your description of the poem, you may like to correct.

The sad slde(slide) into Alziemmer's(Alzheimer's)
the words in brackets are the correct spelled words.

Thank you Sandra for highlighting that error. I'll attend to it today.
You're right, this poem is close to the hear, it's written about my father-in-law.
The five stars are much appreciated

Nicely done, Bob. Timely and touching content. I found this one while looking for the latest Picture This poem. This one resonated with me as my mom couldn't remember either. A sad situation for the caregiver as well as the patient. Marilyn

I've been away for three months and not entered any contests. First up my wife and I enjoyed our retirement holiday in Canada and the US. Two fantastic countries. Nine weeks of pure pleasure.
Returning home saw me hospitalized for three weeks. I underwent a quadruple by-pass. Not as much fun as the holiday.
Fortunately I'm now well on the road to recovery.
Thanks again for the great review

Hi Bob. You are fortunate to have returned home from your trip before hospitalization. My husband has had a valve replacement among other issues. I'm glad you're feeling better and back on FS again. Marilyn

Free verse is images and thoughts, and the words make pictures without
measured brushstrokes. This is sad, and complete, and fine free verse...
in my honest but unschooled opinion.

Thank you for such a great compliment, a picture without brushstrokes. Wow.
Sadly it's the story of my father-in-law.

Don't worry Bob, it is poetry, it does have its own rhythm, a very nostalgic, drawn from your storehouse of memories, there's been a repeated theme of nostalgia and reflection on site lately. I've found that God shares with His people a current theme, so this doesn't surprise me. Nicely written, articulate, reflective with poignancy, beautifully done, very identifiable, blessings, Roy

Thanks Roy for such a complimentary review. I guess after my operation, they actually found a heart, I'm being a little reflective. It's strange how serious surgery makes you realise how fragile we really are. And yes, one does talk more earnestly with the Lord.
    Thanks again.

Yes you're right Bob, life and relationship take on a new meaning, each moment is precious, we tend to a squander these treasures when we're younger.

This was very good-a poignant picture of a place to return from the ravages of this terrible disease. Much enjoyed and that's what I like about writing, not so versed in the rules of poetry or the meter. The story is what does it for me.

Oh my. This poem struck a chord for me. My father-in-law had Alzheimer's. He passed away in March from a massive heart attack. We all focused on the alzheimer's so much that the heart attack took us all by surprise. I think it's good to write about these things. It brings awareness, and it connects with people that may need to read about it to help them through their own walk through this disease. We don't know what's going on in the world of the folks we lock eyes with every day. A poem such as this could help ease somebody's worries.

It's also personal for me. It's written about my wife's father.
It is such a cruel disease as it robs the patient of his dignity
Thank you for taking the time to review

This work has reached the exceptional level

I think it has great meter and that gives it its shape. Mostly, though, what I loved about it was the sense of nostalgia. I did a lot of thinking back about my childhood; dreams still vibrant and vigorous, when I was going through a bout of chemo. I was taking a hard look at the tally, to see where my "kids dreams" had taken me. After your surgery, you might be doing a lot of self-examination yourself.

I think you do very well with your poetry, Bob.

Mr. Squires you have read me spot on. I guess something like this really highlights one's fragility. Thank you so much for the six stars
