My blessed BIC,
When I think you have written the best poetry you have ever written, then you come up with another one that supersedes
the one I thought was your very best.

This poem would be a good one to end to a Christian Publication.

You make some excellent points Roy.
However, it seems strange to me that if the USA is so bad, why are people all over the world trying to get here?

The illegals are using our resources that they did not contribute to and disrespecting our flag, refusing to learn our language and some actually want to kill us.

We do have a difficult decision to make in November. I am amazed that the best that this great land can put on the ballot for president is a "crazy" person or a criminal. Does not sound good for our future.

As always you poem was impeccable in Meter and rhyme.
Your scripture references are right on and I pray our leaders and those around the world are paying attention.

Blessings
Janet

Not just there Janet, here in Australia as well, and there are millions pouring into Europe, all over the west, even some Asian countries, I've been there (US) several times, this work was not meant as a criticism of the US, but the problems that were manifest in other great nations and empires before they eventually fell are there. It may not happen overnight, but if one ditches God, well... God is not mocked, it can turn around, however. Don't worry, similar problems in other countries too. Thanks for the great review, blessings, Roy

    Thank Roy,
We do live in difficult times. Not only our nation but hose around the world. Warfare is being wages in our churches as well. Our church right now is embroiled in a problem that could split our church. Our pastor just asked for a transfer because he was standing up against the controvery and it was hurting his misistry and his family. I know we have to stay the course but the powers of evil are everywhere.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

    Blessings my friend.
    Janet

It's always a little frightening when one realizes that with one swift and might hand God can wipe away the world and create another one if He desired. Pride is never good. Enjoyed your words.

I agree Roy. America was founded on Biblical principles and morals, yet today one would be hard pressed to believe that were the case when so much of America doesn't honor the God of our founding. It saddens me as an American to see how we are sliding to a great fall. Patricia

Excellent poem. It's scary that so many are blinding following one current candidate who is basically running on hate rhetoric.

Your rhyme is "easy/unforced" and enhances the flow of this poem.

The image sets a tone--yet the words are so "on point" and well-chosen that the poem easily stands alone.

This is clearly one of the strongest poems on the first page today. The ideas are presented with balance, and not overstated. It's very appropriate that the examples may reflect current world affairs--but purposefully chooses historic events for make its point.

EDITING NOTE:
" but then there pride became too rich," -- in this case, "there refers to a place" and you need to replace it with "their" referring to a group of people.

Hello Roy,
Timely, and Worth remembering piece of poetry beautifully depicting its theme! - Keeping in mind the Author Notes, and the electoral wind laced with 'Trump's foul smell' in the USA.
Wording is impressive.
Smooth and captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme and lively imagery.
The last stanza is particularly noteworthy.

We had an empire once. By the time it was officially an empire we had abolished slavery. But the whole thing had been built on slavery and the infamous triangular trade continued long after slavery's abolitition in the UK. Bristol to West Africa - trinkets, West Africa to the Americas - slaves, Americas to Bristol - Cotton.

Our come-uppance may have come a little late. But it has come.

This was very well done. It remembered the lessons that history has taught and that many have forgotten. It remembered God, who although many do remember they have diminished his significance. It reminded us that we need to be humble and respectful. Perhaps there is time to correct the path. Great writing, thank you.

I don't agree with the opening thoughts in this piece of writing. Yet still, as a poem it is very well-written and has good poetic tones about the way it reads. This is a five-star production all the way... John
