An excellent mix of emotions in this chapter. Also of description and dialog. How touching that the hockey team took time to recognize their fan. Love the fact your husband wanted the t.v. since it was bigger than any he already had.

No women don't, that's just a fable to make men feel bad about themselves. Quite a good read though I've not read any other stories about Bobby, but I'll go look some up and read them. I enjoyed this one. Regards Mabaker

Thanks, Ma, for enlightening me about big. :-)
I've written Bobby's bio, but have to put a few finishing touches before self-publishing. It's truly an inspirational story and listed on FS as "The Floppy Baby".

A delightful tribute to bobby and the people who loved him. He was a miracle, and proof that God is still in the miracle making business. Adding tidbits about his life(Tampa Bay Lightning, an ice hockey team) and the bobble heads offers the reader to feel closer to him.

The humorous banter between you and Frank help balance out the somber occasion.

Why is velvet often the chosen decor in funeral homes?? So damn cheesy! The only thing worse than red, is the 'heavenly blue' that our local mortuary sports.

This was an honest follow-up to your nephew's story...the 'what if no one comes' syndrome myst be present in all of us and likely stems from being unpopular in grade school?

Loved this paragraph:
I couldn't mourn for a man whom I knew was now racing, legs pumping knee high in a new dimension. My sister and parents would help his transition to the other side. Sometimes, an accident is meant to happen.

The t.v. and Fred...lol. Often the most bizarre things happen during services...my 7 year old daughter took over the 'complimentary refreshment' table at my father's funeral, making it her own for profit lemonade stand while I was greeting people. I was mortified at the time, but now LOL.

    Hilarious about your daughter.
    Bet she's a CEO today.
You cited my favorite paragraph too.
You're right on target with tracing our fear back to grade school.

Thanks for a great review. ( Maybe red in funeral homes symbolizes blood? :-)

Hi Shari,
I love your sense of humor in your writing, especially at the end. Funerals are always bittersweet to me...sad for our loss but glad the deceased is free from earthly chains. I am a sniffer like Frank and Chris. ;-)

Appreciate your comments on my humor. I recall crying when I hear of a beloved's death, but never at a funeral because I feel the way you do.

Funerals aren't easy to go too, let alone write about one. You have much love for Bobby and expressed your thoughts quite well. That was so nice the ice hockey team remembered him, and honored his life with the the 4 ft pyramid roses. I like how you talk about your family there to welcome him. It sounds like Bobby had a wonderful personality and brought joy to people's life despite his illness. You were blessed to have known him.

Thanks, Kay, for the warm review. In spite of his physical problems, Bobby kept a sense of humor and did make many friends.

And you had started to wonder if many would be attending Bobby's funeral. His interest in ice hockey and the team's tribute to him in the form of a lovely bouquet. Also, the bobble figures show that despite his handicap Bobby was able to actively pursue his interests. He had things to think about besides his aches and pains. Humorous comments about Frank wanting Bobby's big-screen TV. Well focused and interesting without being overly sentimental. judi

Thanks, judi. It irked me that Frank wanted to even think about material things at a time like this.

You're very welcome. Especially when you already have your TV's. judi

As always, the "Grip" is the key to good writing of most any kind and this author has a golden glove over her grip when it comes to the pen and ink and the ability to "think" ...(sorry Shari) just had to make something rhyme when writing to you! This is sincerely, a very interesting and well written piece! HIS GRAYNESS

Thank you so much for the six, Vance. There are so many outstanding pieces on the site, it's a thrill to even 'compete'.
Now, get a grip on yourself before my head gets too big...no pun intended. :-)

It kind of sounded like scavengers, taking Bobby's precious collectibles. But that's just my opinion.
I hate funerals and everything connected with them. They are for the living not the dead. IMO
The roses from the TBL were a nice thought and they had shown their appreciation to him before he passed as well. That's what really matters.

Another very well written chapter, Shari.
You shouldn't worry about who attends your funeral. It's more important that they attend to you while you are living. IMO.

I'm with you on funerals. Neither Frank or I even want a memorial service, but sometimes the living need it for closure.
Bobby would have wanted his friends to have those dolls. Wish I had thought to take one just for memories sake. I'm planning to give away some of my expensive seriographs away to friends who have admired them. My children have different tastes in art.

Good morning, Shari.
The bouquet had been sent by Tampa Bay Lightning, an ice hockey team. Bobby never missed a game. The players noticed his loyal presence in the handicapped area and invited him to their celebration after winning the Stanley Cup. He took a proffered drink from the coveted trophy. How thrilled he was to share the team's victories. I'll bet his soul beamed to know they cared enough to grieve for him. ... How cool was that?! There's a good reason the professional ice hockey is one of my favorite spectator sports to attend. The players fully realize who butters their bread, while many other sports do not. The players make themselves accessible to their adoring fans more often than not. They truly appreciate their loyal fan base. What they did for Bobby simply proves it.

He told Mom when he was in his twenties: "I wake up some mornings and think it's all a bad dream. I'm going to get up today and be able to run."

I couldn't mourn for a man whom I knew was now racing, legs pumping knee high in a new dimension. My sister and parents would help his transition to the other side. Sometimes, an accident is meant to happen.
... Like you, I find it difficult to cry at a funeral service when a loved one who's been suffering passes away. I know, just as you do, they are in a much better place now than they were...

Men always want BIG when it comes to electronics.

Women want BIG when it comes to.... Never mind.
... And men want the exact opposite when it comes to their women. "Big" is not an option I would personally choose for a woman, in more ways than one, if you know what I mean.

Great chapter as usual, Shari.
Very well written and error free.

Error-free. Whoopee doo. LoL. Eagle eye Jay caught my only three right away at one in the morning today. Good to know that about the Lightnings and good to know you don't cry either when death is preferable to life.
