This is so true. I witnessed the changes from when I attended school and throughout my children's time in school. I sure would prefer to go back in time. Old SCHOOL.....Old Military....Old Civil Service....Everything changed way too much. I do not like the changes one bit. Even though I prefer old school, I do not want to go to far back either....strict catholic schooling with nuns that would be called abusers put behind bars in today's world. YIKES...

Your poems were a pleasant read and you hit the nail with the hammer dead on . It is always good to write about something you truly know about or have done research about... you have first hand experience.
Thanks so much for sharing.

I love my job and my children are respectful. However it is a challenge to get some students to understand. Thank you for reading.

I wish I could say you were exaggerating in your poem, the second half, but you're not. I've taught high school English and History for 15 years. During that time the only young teachers who remain are teaching non- core classes. The oldsters take the first opportunity to retire early. Your poem hits every bail squarely on the head.

I too wish it wasn't true. In my class , Choir , it isn't. 99 percent of them want to be there and through the years I have been able to inspire them. It is the teachers like you, English, History who get no choice about who you teach. One student can ruin the classroom. We aren't allowed to get that one student out. We are told to modify. So many want to learn. When we are allowed to teach it is magic. I bet you are wonderful .

I have great respect for teaching and teachers! I have to remember I am critiquing the merit of the poem, not teachers.

That said, this poem doesn't read much like a poem---rather, more like someone sharing their opinion (ranting is a perfect description, and I have to agree). The rhyming is humorous at times, but because of the sadness and frustration of the narrator, it isn't easy to read.

Perhaps there could be more description and less preaching?

Show, don't tell, is a great rule! The majority of this work is rhyming telling. And that is fine. This might be better presented as a personal essay. The clever language could still help to further the point, and further examples could be provided.

This is great I myself think we should do away with public schools, they cost more than they are worth. good luck on this and have a great day

As long as you understand that I truly love my students. There are some good things about public schools. It is the testing that is evil. Private schools do not spend millions on testing. Public schools are forced to. Private schools do not have to keep students who don't want to learn. Public schools not only have to keep disruptive students we have to make modifications for them. It is a dilemma.
