I wasn't quite ready to read this, but I did very slowly and as I did I started feeling the tears trickle down my face. I could not help it. Death has been next to me recently and I still am at the point where I cannot fully take it all in. Everything is bothering me....nothing can make me change the way I feel. Only time will reveal the outcome of me and what I am going through deep down within myself.
Thank you for sharing. I needed to read this and I am glad I did.

This was clearly written from the heart, Judy! The pain, anguish and then the ultimate acceptance and resolution conveyed in your write, lead me to believe that you've been through all of the various stages that one goes through when losing a loved one, and in dealing with grief and coming to terms with it.

You hit the nail head on. This poem should fare well in the contest. You make the reader realize that we should embrace every little imperfection in our significant others ... just being thankful that we have them in our lives, because once they are gone we would give anything just to have them back (flaws and all).

Well done!

Connie

Thank you Connie, This year has been hard. I lost my step son , Thirty seven, to a heart attack. Then seventeen days later I lost my best friend, complications from surgery. I no longer try to rush grief, I accept all parts of it. I came to fan story in February. Writing has become my best therapy.

I'm so sorry for your losses, Judy! That is scary to think that a 37 year old can have a heart attack. Sometimes life is not very fair at all. You are right not to 'rush' grief, as it is a very necessary thing to go through in order for you to heal. Yes, writing is terrific therapy. I started writing a few years ago to help me deal with the loss of a 37 year marriage. Now I just write because I find it fulfilling and fun. :)

Beautiful, beautiful poem. Flows well and gave the heartstrings a big pull. I would recommend this poem to everyone. My condolences. (I assume that you've been through it, because it sounds very real.) And all the best wishes for the future.

Yes , it's been a tough year with the death of my young step son, Thirty seven, heart attack and seventeen days later my best friend. , complications from surgery. It has helped me so much to be able to write about it and the people on fan story are so supportive. It truly means the world to me.

Bless your heart! Tough year, for sure, to say the least. It's good that writing is helping. Glad you have found a good bunch of Fanstory friends, too. Sending prayers.

With the help of God in time we can see things differently.
Your poem is one about empathy. I like the last part how the person "soul became part of mine."

Good luck with your writing prompt entry.

Good solid entry with lots of truth written like a conversation. Progression of pain through some acceptance at the end. Best of luck in the voting booths.

There are several of these poems on the website these days. I do not dare criticize or analyze. I just state my own opinion of the events. However yours...is like it came from my own heart and mouth. I lost someone very dear, a long time ago...
Thank you for being able to share these kind words with us!

Just an awesome poem. The baring of ones soul for healing is a grueling process, hopefully you're surrounded with a loving family. I love the free flowing style, it make it straight from the heart. I wish I had a six for you. Have a great day and God bless.

A very well-written poem. Only someone who experienced the lost of a loved one to death will understand the emotions the one who stay behind goes through.

I like they type of poem you displayed. The empathy with grief for a loved one that has passed. We all handle our tragedies in different ways, but we all suffer. Memories are the only things left behind for us to hold on to. Nice, sad poem.
