G'day Shari. Very interesting chapter mate.

"Yes, I'm one of few who enjoy hearing about the different paths family members are(-extra space) taking."

"The separation had lasted almost twenty years." ( Now that is amazing!)

"In spite of his dementia, Frank remembered the bad stuff long after I let it go. " (Crikey. Sad.)

"He left of his own free will, frustrated by(-extra space.) Nancy's efforts to sabotage his last production."

" I often wonder if the real-life drama hastened his loss of memory." ( Good point!)

Great work again. Leaves a lot of food for thought about dementia and other problems as we age, doesn't it?

Top job.

Cheers Fez

Families are so complex and you are able to express your thoughts quite well.
People often hold onto and remember things that anger them to the very detail.
I guess with Frank being head of the drama club, he lived up to drama and expressed himself. Sounds like it is hard for Frank to take things from another perspective which makes it difficult for you. With his dementia his perspective may have been affected before ever being diagnosed. Hope you have a happy 4th of July.

I read that people have dementia for twenty years sometimes before it's recognized. I have to admit that Frank's temperament has limited my chances at times.

The dialogue is my favorite part. There is a lot going on in a short space here. I love the comment about the rivalry--who is worse off. Again you show how optimistic and caring you are, reaching out and keeping in contact with people.

Astral thought, so that is what it is called. I've had it happen a few time.

Have a great holiday.

Thanks so much for the six, debi, and for noting the comment on rivalry. I make an effort to include dialogue. That's what makes a story come alive.

The stress and drama of the theater group could have hastened Frank's memory loss. I often wonder about the role of stress in dementia. It is too bad that your husband's social world changed, but is not that unusual as we age.

I guess not. But I'm amazed at how some people keep so active in their eighties. I like to sleep!

You are doing a terrific job with this. I know this is from your POV but I actually feel I know your family. Keep up the great work.

That's a wonderful thing to say and what I hoped for. Next post: Franks begins to slide downhill.
On the bright side though he's doing better physically today.

Oh, boy, this seems to be a case of biting off one's nose to spite his face. I'm guessing all your metaphysical musings never rubbed off on Frank.

It's always fun when the ESP kicks in.

Anyway, you're probably right about the disappointment hastening his dementia.

Frank still can't think outside the box. He's convinced it's a sin not to go to confession and mass.
For sure, not being able to use his thinking skills shuts down a part of his brain. Although I'm more apt to think the anger and bitterness did it.

How sad for Frank. Yes, I would think losing a chance to focus on a mental activity would hasten the effects. It's a shame that woman was such a bitch. It's hard to lose your main interest... I couldn't survive a week without this computer and writing, reading, staying in touch with new friends.

Dear Spitfire,

Seems you have some idiosyncratic characters here. With time they have aged and don't resemble what they looked like in their teens-I suppose when one gets together with people they've been apart from for a long time they think "How old these people look," knowing full well they must too. (LOL)

Warm regards,

Winslow

I remember going to a party and thinking, "I don't belong here. These people are old enough to be my parents." I was fifty at the time. Teaching high school juniors and seniors didn't help! I felt closer to their age.

This is a wonderful story and you have penned it with clarity
and as a reader I found myself easily involved. I have only one
area that you may want to review: "...he battled vocally with at her..."
This may need some editing.
I look forward to more! -Bill

Hello,

My exhusband is a technical director and my kids practically lived in the theater growing up. I hated that he spent all his time working with his 9 to 5 job and theater at night and weekends but the kids loved the magic of acting and all that jazz.

It sounds like you have a fun family. My family is very small. Just me, my children, granddaughters, and siblings in Spain.

You wrote this story well, the plot and characters come through clearly and with personal flair. Great one!

May life bring you joy and blessings

Gypsy

Thank you, Gypsy. Guess I know now why he's an ex. The theater is addictive to some people, but rehearsals take up so much time.
My family is about to lose two more people. Anne was smart to have a litter. LOL
