The last lines are my favorite and the entire poem in free verse reads like the lives of battered women I have known. At least we are free to escape. In Arab countries no choice.

poignant piece of writing on a subject
that unfortunately happens far too regularly
everywhere in the world. you told her story
well and i think you will have raised awareness
of how awful it is to be so vulnerable, dependant
and isolated. very good poem

Excellent Poem! The author's words are thought provoking, heart felt and
sad. The reader found the last stanza for battered and abused wives having
a great message. The artwork is perfect and compliments the theme and words
of this poem.

I have always wondered why a battered wife stays, but I suppose it's through fear they are trapped within a marriage like that. Such a sad waste of a life. The punishment for wife battering should be a lot harsher than it currently is, there is no excuse for lashing out at woman. Excellent poem, my friend, sad, well written, and shows the plight of these poor women. :) Sandra

A great free verse on battered wives, I don't know how this can happen or what's wrong with men that do this. Women don't need men and should never fear to leave one. Great write thanks for the share.

What a powerful piece and poem. Such confronting expressions are necessary to advocate for the silent suffering of so many women out there. Whether they marry due to forced cultural requirements or a choice based on false impressions of love, violence or psychological manipulation in matrimony is never okay. Who would have throught that once upon a time, the fact that a woman was married to her husband was a legal defence for any allegation of rape against her spouse. Sickening. Worse yet, in many countries not subject to Western law or policies, this is still the case. Marriage is not ownership of another's personal right to their body and mind. It is meant to represent an empowering union of two people, where one encourages and provokes another to become a greater self. This poem expresses this ideal gone wrong.
